would it be wise to have one thread for these offers similar to the Tesco bargains one so that we could follow it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,404 ✭✭✭✭vicwatson

I agree, or even a sticky?

The world is tilting on its axis!

btw does this signal a new price war warning shot from Aldi?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,404 ✭✭✭✭vicwatson

I was told that they were tired of the current system and they were getting to the point that the repeats of offers were getting too close together (Parsley/Carrot tray mix for example almost on offer every 2nd week)

Here's hoping for a greater variety of offers and cheaper prices..............

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 31,117 ✭✭✭✭snubbleste

It's going to be every two weeks from now as well..
Aldi introduced the Super 6 and forced all the other supermarkets to compete in providing cheap fruit&veg

Yes the offers will be for 2 weeks as before, it's only the day that's changing.

Is it my imagination, or have the average "super 6" prices crept up rapidly from approx 1/3 of full price to approx 2/3 of full price?

Don't think I'd change my normal driving route to do my shopping at Aldi on foot of those prices.

I like Aldi and shop there regularly but the price trend is very much on the up.

I visited Supervalu last weekend for first time in maybe 6 months and was surprised how little difference there was between it and Aldi for many staple-buy items.

Forgot they change on a Thursday now. Was coming on to see what the new offer was.

Anybody in SuperValu today? There's nothing showing online in the 3 for €2 offer on their website, maybe they've discontinued it?

They just haven't updated their details and I wasn't in Aldi to see what they were. They really should get on top of this and have their website up to date

Grand selection for salads and that.

Boil the baby potatoes, let the cool, add a couple of spoonfulls of mayonaise and some finely chopped Scallion - hey presto Potato Salad

With the remaining Scallions add them to some chopped tomatoes, cucumber, avocado, some salt n pepa and a drizzle of Olive oil and there's a garnish to go with above.

Cook off some chicken or a bit of steak and there's a cheapy dinner sorted !

Kiwis for dessert !! very healthy !!!!:D

I don't remember Peaches being in there the past couple of Summers - I know in Ashbourne a few years ago I went through a whole crate & didn't find 1 punnet without either a couple badly bruised or downright mouldy. Manager said it was impossible to keep them right......

Those vine tomatoes from ALDI are fantastic.

Get a large French Roll (about €1.00)

Cut it in lengths and toast it

Spread a bit of olive oil or garlic oil over it and rub it in

Slice up the Vine Tomatoes (at room temperature for best flavour)

Slice up some Mozzarella (about 59c in Lidl and Aldi)

Put some fresh Basil Leaves on it and a sprinkle of Black Pepper to taste and hey presto - a VERY nice homemade nutritious Bruschetta

have to agree with you on that. Not really a tomato fan but had these on a sambo today and the taste off them was fantastic...never said that before about a tomato!

The key is to eat them at room temperature I think, straight out of the fridge and they do not have as much flavour at all.

Want to extract even more flavour? Cut them in half, put them on a baking tray with a pinch of salt and cook them at 140c for 1.5 hours

Your tastebuds won't know what hit them.

I dunno if all tomato packets say it, but on one I read, it recommended not putting them in the fridge as it hindered the ripening process.

Cucumber: Sweet cucumber pickle - The most basic recipe: (peel and deseed if you want) slice the cucumber thinly and put in a bowl. Splash on a bit of cider or rice vinegar, a table spoon of sugar, a bit of salt. Cover and leave overnight in the fridge. Lovely in a sandwich.

Lemons: Lemon drizzle cake - http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/4942/lemon-drizzle-cake. The recipe states only zest of one lemon, but I always put at least two if not three.

Avocado: Use instead of butter in a sandwich. Tip: When mashed - keep the stone in it to stop it going brown.

Make spicy sweet potato wedges - peel them, cut them into wedges and put on a baking tray with salt, pepper, chilli flakes and a little olive oil. Bake at 180 for 40 minutes or thereabouts

Sweet potato is great with goats cheese. Try grating sweet potato, add sautéed onion, goats cheese, a beaten egg and seasoning. Squash into fistful size patties, drizzle with olive oil and bake in the oven. Voila - sweet potato and goats cheese rosti. Yummy!
