Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I started reading this thread early and sort of lost track after that. Now I'm very interested in purchasing this as a christmas present for someone. It would mainly be for the channels, but if the Plex thing is handy it would be interesting to me too. A few questions if someone would be very kind to answer.

Thanks to anyone that can help me with these. It would really make a difference to someone if this worked out suitable to them.

    1. Yes, a few such as 4oD and Sky News, plus some other minor ones.
    2. you get a 30 day movie pass when you sign up as a taster. there are sometimes passes for movies and entertainment at a good price on ebay although it just seems to be sports passes right now. there's also the odd special offer on here, i've had 3 or 4 months free on movies in the last year afaik.
    3. Plex allows you to connect the nowTV to a back-end movie library (either locally or remotely), similar to XBMC just without all the frills. you either need to create your own plex server, or know someone who has one, but you can buy subscriptions to them online fairly cheaply, although it is unlikely to be legal content, so we wouldn't be able to discuss it here.
    4. not normally, mine has always been fine, although *very* occasionally it needs the power pulling on the nowTV box to reset it, but it is only very occasionally and I don't recall needing to do it for the last few months at all.
    5. check the nowTV website or ebay, sometimes stuff comes up.
    6. Yeah, ITV won't work and iPlayer doesn't work unless you change the DNS on your router.
    7. Yes and you can have up to 4 nowTV devices on a single account with a max of two in use simultaneously, so if you got two of them and had a movie pass on one and the ent. pass on the other, both boxes would have access to both passes at the same time if they were added to the same account. :)

Fantastic. Thanks a lot for answering all them!

1 more question. I'd like to use this on a laptop as well, the problem is it doesn't have a HDMI connection, just a VGA. What would be my options on getting it to work on the laptop? A Converter cable, or a way to stream it to the laptop perhaps?

    Thanks again!

I thought it pretty good. But it was a bit pricey. I only got it to take advantage of the cheap deals they had originally. I wouldn't pay the full price for it. Just be aware they change what's available around, so stuff disappears from it after a certain time.

The video connection on a laptop is normally an output only, not an input so you can't connect a nowtv to a laptop like that.

BUT, you actually don't need to because you can log into your nowtv account via your web browser and play your subscribed content without using a nowtv box at all, same goes for plex and iPlayer etc. all available right from your browser on your laptop.

Ah I completely forgot about that way, I wasn't sure if it could be watched in the browser. Been a big help, thanks again!

Hi there , I clearly missed a few post about giving credit card details when creating a Now TV account , is there any way to create an account without giving said details , I got the box mainly for the apps and free channels on a spare TV , I don't plan on buying any sport or movies services from sky.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

If you have or had a Sky a/c you could try the username & password from that a/c. That worked for me.

If you have a Chromecast I think the 3 months free entertainment pack is still there.

Lads where can you download the now tv app?
Either directly from the play store or you could use http://apps.evozi.com/apk-downloader/

Simply paste the URL for the now tv app into it and click 'Generate Download Link'. It will either work or it won't.

Can someone here tell me the top 3 or 4 benefits of Plex?

From what I know, it's basically an app for streaming files from your local network? Do you need to have files stored on a laptop/PC and have it switched on?

Yes has to be switched on. I have plex, do I use it? No.

Plex is of no use with chromecast to be frank.....why would i want to watch my local files using a streaming device ?? I can directly watch with other modes....

One of the best things is that you can get invites to other peoples Plex servers.

By popular demand, NOW TV will be releasing more Festive Boxes in the coming weeks. Limited quantities will be released on 10th and 17th December. Once they’re gone, they’re gone.

The limited edition festive boxes have just become available on the website, so for anybody interested I'd try getting an order in soon. They're being sold through a third-party website, but they offer delivery to Ireland so no need to use parcel motel. Also if you want more than one box you don't have to pay delivery for each individual item. Standard delivery is £3, I ordered two different boxes and including delivery it came to a little over €30, was also able to pay with PayPal.

Do I have to pay a monthly subscription? Would this be say similar to my apple tv which is jailbroken if I wanted to modify it?

Basically its for sky TV - you pay a monthly subscription for
entertainment package or sport movies etc..

Its way more restricted than your apple tv. Only certain (roku) apps work on it (google it).
biggest one that doesnt is netflix as it's a competitor.

If you are after a media streamer I wouldnt get this.

If ITV/utv launch in Ireland on the 1st January as plannef then it might work without having to use any IP tricks. No help right now of course but it's only two weeks away.

    Try unblock-us.

Works for ITVPlayer on all my devices, albeit I don't own a Roku.

Side loading Plex makes it an extremely cheap media streamer.

Pay about €36/year for overplay.net and this box becomes very useful. Add plex as mentioned and for most this is all you will need as it's so cheap.

Nope there's only a set amount of pre-installed apps on the box. Only chance would be to side load the app the same way Plex is installed but there would have to be an app made for the box.

I have one of these a good while now and it's certainly decent as a media server. But I got a chromecast recently and I'd recommend buying that instead as the screencast function of that is very useful. you can get now tv content on chromecast also via an app afaik. it can also run plex. the chromecast is more expensive but it's on offer sometimes - I got it for £18 from amazon uk.

The YouTube app in the NowTV supports the chrome cast function. Only limited to YouTube, still handy though.
