Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I love how you have pretty much every respected scientist in the world excited about this thing and confident that there's a better chance of winning the lotto than destroying the world, yet it just takes one crackpot to get the media all in a frenzy.

Oh wait, it's the daily mail. They probably just invented the crackpot.

I suppose, "Science experiment gone awry to destroy world" is much more fun than, "Scientists understand more of world. Rest of population now proportionally stupider."

Because the ISS would be able to stay that close to the event horizon of a black hole without getting sucked in......

I wanna be sitting astride the thing, waving a cowboy hat in the air and shouting "YEEEE-HAAAWWWW" when they turn it on.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Well I have dabbled a bit in the field of Advanced Thermo Nuclear Physics, as a bit of a fun hobby like. But if it does create a black hole it'll be so small that it would just dissolve, sucking less than my Ma at a stag party.

I hope that those scientists are paying more attention than me, particularly when they're reading the instruction manual. If it's written by an Ikea man, we're definitely screwed, because even Einstein couldn't have followed one of them.

Within four years, one of these 'celestial vacuums' could have swollen to such a size that it is capable of sucking the Earth inside-out,

    wait...2008 + 4 = 2012

    why... what they say?

Apparently the world is going to end in 2012 and Englands Olympic hosting is just a big cover up so they can build a huge nuke or something that will destroy us all....
I believe there are some threads about that here somewhere

That was the Mayans. Also, iirc that theory may be due to a miscalculation/mistranslation.

    Or maybe not...

And as another poster said: ffs, we have enough of these threads.

Anyone up for an end of the world party on booterstown strand tomorrow night? I'll bring the barbeque. The BGRH lads can ransack a pub and bring a hundred kegs of fine beer and some wimmens, and film forum folk can steal a cinema projector and a screen. I've got a copy of darkplace we can watch aswell. :pac:

You'll certainly look like a weirdo then when you have to go back inside because nothing is going to happen.

As soon as I saw a link to the Daily Mail, I facepalmed in my mind.

Just happened to be the first Google result I got.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/15/science/15risk.html

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/science/2008/sep/08/particlephysics.physics

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/magazine/7600966.stm

Loads more news agencies reporting, although it's bollóx tbh.

Not a chance if the Dodgy Pub Practices thread is to be believed. It'll be a mixture of drip tray slops, Tesco own-brand vodka, unsold re-capped bottles and quite possibly sweat that's dripped off some crooked barmen, all sloshed together and funnelled into a keg for returning to Diageo.
