Careful, you'll put people off voting n....oh wait sorry. Nevermind, as you were.

What has age got to do with it  I am very aware of the reality as I am the parent of a gay teen. I can count on one hand the times my child has heard anything positive in her Catholic school about homosexuality. My child didn't choose to be gay and wasn't steered that way by anyone in her circle. She is what she is and I'm damned proud of her. If one of my kids believed the rubbish you do I would have failed as a parent.

I also admire it when I see two normal people in a loving marriage, it's a wonderful sight and a sign of God's gift of love to mankind that he can allow and has instilled within people the ability to express such feelings.

HOWEVER, there are limits in life, and homosexuality transgresses those limits like no other. It is unnatural, in just about everything in this life opposites are designed to attract, from humans to magnets. The fact that two people of the same sex are claiming to have "affection" for each other only says that they have been brainwashed as youth or have not been brought up properly and taught proper values. I am relatively young and while growing up we were regularly reminded how it was "OK" to be gay, we were shown films, had discussions and all the rest about being gay. So much so that it almost felt that we were being forced to come out as gay and it couldn't be possible that an entire class didn't have one gay person. I can perfectly understand some poor naive person in that environment forming doubts in their mind and beginning to get paranoid, asking themselves "is it possible that I'm gay ?", then when even the slightest mentioning of it is made to a counselor they are almost forced to say they're "gay" as doing otherwise will only lead everyone to believe they are gay but just don't want to tell. All this pressure can seriously mess with the mind of a poor young person and they can almost convince themselves they're gay when they're not.

The only solution to this nonsense is to stop the issue at it's source and to try and stop it being "accepted" in society, as quite frankly it's a load of nonsense. Those who have managed to convince themselves they're gay shall be made seek appropriate help to cure their illness that was forced upon them during their youth. Voting yes in this referendum will be another grave step in the wrong direction, the future of Ireland is in our hands, I do NOT want to mess it up !!!!
Seriously it's people like yourself who basically kept me in the closet, it's seriously opinions like this that can really have a negative affect on a young LGBT person, it's seriously 1950 esq too, when your gay your gay no matter if you like it or not, I even tried the hetro game had a few kids with the ex and guess what turns out I totally love women, thankfully I'm out and proud and my kids love me for the person I am and I wouldn't have any other way!

Good! Young people should be made aware of the fact that it's ok to be gay! It might help some young people to be more accepting of themselves earlier on and not go through 20 years of self-hatred like I went through before getting to that stage. Posts like yours are what's wrong with this country, not gay people. Live and let live and stop being so obsessed by how other people live their lives.

I'm sorry to break it to you, but the fact you have a gay child is symbolic of your failure as a parent. I would personally be embarrassed to know that I was responsible for raising offspring capable of such dispicible behaviour, never mind raise my head and feel confident enough to blurt it out all over public forums, people have no shame nowadays !

As for the age, surely it's quite obvious I was trying to get at the fact younger people would be generally more aware of what is happening within the school system considering they are the ones who have just come throught it ?!?!?! Ain't that hard, love.

I would also be against said ban.

Can we get a show of hands?

We managed to go thousands of years with those of similar ideas, we made it safely to where are today thank you very much. With "gay" people popping up left, right and centre God only knows what the future holds.

I'm sorry but didn't you say you were gay ? Yeh, do tell us all about relationships ...

For those that think I'm trolling, I have better things to be doing than talking to a bunch of people who are either gay or who have raised gays. I'm only here for one thing and that's to say I'm voting NO and so is everyone else on this isle with an ounce of sense.

I reckon 1123heavy is so deep in the closet he's found Narnia.

Such a lazy argument 'you don't like gays so you must be gay'.

Oh I am far worse than gay. I am bisexual. I could live straight, I just don't want to.

So how is college working out for you then? Must be quite a few openly gay people around campus, an LGBT society...can't be easy for you!

Unless you plan on living and working in a sect with only people who share your extreme views, you're going to have to get over yourself and fast.

Yeah because 1123heavy's argument is just packed to the rafters with research, facts and statistics. Why are you only quoting this comment? Why not quote 1123heavy's comment to a poster calling them a failure as a parent?

And here it is, next time we should all bet on how long it will take.

As opposed to the intellectual prowess being shown by the quoted poster? Tried having a serious debate with him, he wasn't interested so I'll stick with silly little digs for my own entertainment, cheers.

Fair enough but I do see this 'you hate gays so you must be a closet gay' argument appearing a lot. I don't think it's true at all.

Excuse me, I posted an entire paragraph in a reasonable manner and explained everything without reverting to insults. You and your fellow yes voters decided to give infantile replies and things have gone downhill ever since. Do repost where you claim to have tried a "serious debate" after my post as I may have missed it

I'll be voting in favour of equal marriage.

I was having a meal with my family in a restaurant on Friday. My mother put her head in her hands, turned to me and said, "I don't know why gay people and trans people can't be left alone." I gave her a hug. I'm guessing she'll be voting for marriage equality too.

You insulted the entire LGBT community!

    What's the problem?

The ignore everything until some pro SSM person says something that they can get a dig in crowd.

Here we go again, you're very careful in what you lot pick up on ! How about looking at the reason I said what I did, perhaps where the person said they would regard themselves as a failure having me as a child ? I don't care whether you feel it's true or not, it was a lovely post that deserved an equally lovely reply. You people have no debating ability, It's either vote yes or be labelled all names under the sun. Any time a reasonable argument is posted (I and many others posted days ago too) you people either react with stupid immature insults and when you receive equally insulting replies you call foul and report the person. Great debating skills. Galway guitar, if you have come here looking for a fair debate I'm afraid you're in the wrong place as these people reek of double standards, they can dish it all but get wound up when a tiny bit is given back, pathetic so they are.

So can you enlighten me how I am to be "cured" of my "illness", cause for nearly 15yrs I am in a deeply loving relationship with my partner.

Is there something like a final solution to this cure of yours?

    I couldn't hit the report button, I didn't have a hand free.

If you have anything to back your wall of text argument by assertion, I'm listening. But otherwise, innuendo all the way.
