Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Pathetic that this even turned into a debate, if a woman wants to be natural then it does not automatically mean she is a hate filled feminist, quite frankly if i had to go through the rituals of shaving/waxing all the things women shave/wax to conform with societies views then id be one hairy assed trollop.

Badly bits on either gender looks horrible anyway.

if the woman wanted to be natural she'd stop wearing makeup, perfume, let the oils in her hair build up over time to clean itself, stop wearing bras, stop wearing high heels and die in her teens or 20's of a preventable illness.

stop using the word "natural" to imply that it's somehow better than shaving or that she's a more liberated individual. she wants to be hairy, more power to her. If the internet has taught me anything it's that she'll have no trouble finding men who aren't turned off by it.

wasn't there another thread on this last week? Oh god I despise big afro pubes and underarm hair yuck. Just shave it it takes 2 minutes:confused:

It's the kind of topic that just keeps on giving. Although like the numerous topics on "fat" women (all started by men, natch) there is the law of diminishing returns. No insights, just acres of the usual fear and loathing concerning women and their bodies. Yawn.

Ah, I just read your response to Sea Filly. This picture keeps changing, doesn't it? Yesterday, your argument was 'it's a personal preference' which, is fair enough. Now you're claiming it reduces smell and makes them easier to clean. In that case men should also be shaving under their arms, and regularly too, not just when the weather is hot.

To be honest, I'd have far more respect for a man who wants a woman to shave under her arms if he didn't try to make it a female-only thing. Like one of the posters on here (think it was Gummy Panda) who says he does it too. It's the one rule for women, another rule for men I reject. I've been saying this since my first post: underarm hair isn't one of life's beautiful things ( in my view), so there really shouldn't be a gender divide regarding who it's acceptable on and who should remove it. I don't understand why this simple logic fails so many.

I can't even remember the last time I shaved my legs. I have no need to, I wear pants all the time. And even when the weather was nice, I wore shorts with me hairy legs. My hair is blonde so I'm lucky.

Underarm hair I tend to shave more regularly, even though I'd love not to - I have a mole smack bang in the middle of that area, so shaving is a real pain - I must use hair removal cream for that, and to be honest, waiting an extra 5 minutes in the shower for that to work, isn't always worth it.

    Pubes? I trim, when I remember...which isn't often.

    My boyfriend doesn't give a ****.

Some people's reactions are just plain ridiculous. Vomit inducing? Grow the **** up. And g'way with yer hygiene arguments, that's just plain silly, and a weak stab at trying to get women to shave. One of the functions of pubic hair is to prevent infections.

No wonder women feel they have to shave when people are calling them 'disgusting' or 'vomit inducing' - and people here trying to say there is no social pressures?? Whut??

What I've done has nothing to do with women and what they should do, now does it? I have no idea where you'd assume that because I did something before, it should mean that women should only do it when I've done it. It's like saying "Well I only drink cocktails on holidays, so women should only drink cocktails on holidays too"

I said from the start that it's hygienic. Maybe it wasn't in this thread though, there's been 3 of them on the same subject in less than a week.

No there shouldn't. But it's funny how a lot of men would consider shaving it to be 'gay' or some other bs even though their favourite footballers/wrestlers/rugby players etc probably do it.

As far as I'm aware, the main reason for pubic hair is to enhance the scent the body produces to attract a mate. This includes underarm hair by the way. This means that the more you sweat, the more you smell if hair is present as it acts as an added breeding ground for bacteria. Therefore, there are hygiene reasons.

I'm aware of that, but calling women 'disgusting' and 'smelly' if they don't shave, while not expecting males to shave is ridiculous. Especially when males sweat more than females. Where is the line where 'too unhygienic' is crossed? Having hair? There's nothing wrong with being a little smelly or sweaty and there's nothing wrong with having hair so long as you wash. Someone who has hair but washes more than someone without hair is going to be more hygienic, I feel.

Looks like you and I agree on more than we disagree on. I'm glad we didn't call time on our discussion/chats yesterday.

While I'm not sure I agree with you on the hygiene element of your argument, I accept that's your view and am delighted you're not part of the girls should do it but boys don't have to brigade.

Thinking it's 'gay' for men to shave under their arms is just another branch of the social conditioning we're all subjected to. Although it doesn't affect everyone, and for those it does, it affects some more than others.

For every 'ugh, women with hair on their bodies are disgusting' post on here, there have been enough 'don't be so daft' opposite posts from men to remind me (confirm what I already knew) that there are plenty of lovely men out there that haven't been programmed (either at all, or unduly) by the insidious 'one rule for men, another rule for women' that I've encountered at varying times throughout my life.

I do, however, still think that (some) people - male and female -seriously underestimate the prevalence and power of conditioning.

Hairy women are grand in winter but by spring they should be shaving themselves on a regular basis....not to do so is simply against human nature.

Already stated I wouldn't call someone disgusting, but the appearance of hairy armpits is disgusting looking to me, especially when sweaty. I never called anyone smelly. And I'm sure if a woman asked a man to shave, they would.

You said in hot weather, you might remove it for hygiene reasons. So it should be the same for women, yes? If your reason for disliking it is purely for hygiene, that is.

If it's your preference, that's cool, but it can't be based on hygiene based on what you said above, so it must be for other reasons. So I really don't know why you brought up hygiene at all.

So majority of athletes in the world are gay now?
More and more males are shaving/waxing bodyparts, myself included. Not from pressure, media whatever, because it feels better, looks better and sweat doesn't stink up as much, especially if you are an active person.
Oh and usually the people coming out calling people gay over the stupidest things are usually gay themselves and trying to hide away from it ;)

It's not nonsensical. It's a matter of personal preference, sure. But I could easily present a perfectly intelligible meaning for why I prefer less hair, it shouldn't be that difficult to consider the aesthetic and practical reasons someone would not appreciate lots of hair in certain places.

Seems kinda pointless since men who prefer unshaven have posted in this thread, which proves that hair on women is down to personal preference more than anything else.

The reason she didn't shave was because she believed that it was something imposed on women so men would find them sexually attractive as part of the objectification of women. It's not a random association. Use your noggin.

I suspect, and I may be wrong here, that Smash meant the assumption/form of ridicule that all feminists are hairy; rather than all feminists who are hairy aren't remaining hairy for feminist reasons, as your friend did.

Bit of a tongue twister that one, hope it's followable.

well that's just fact, still doesn't mean that people should accept and stop shaving it if they don't want to.

I wasn't accusing you of calling women smelly. I was just referring to some people on this thread who have suggested it's unhygienic. And I never said people should stop shaving, just that they should be able to without being called disgusting or smelly.
Just because someone has more hair, doesn't mean they are less hygienic than someone who doesn't have hair. But some people here are simplifying it and presuming that hair = smelly/dirty, when in reality it's more complex. Sure, there's a possible higher chance of people with hair being more prone to being smelly...but it's only a possibility, it's not fact.

I get that you have your opinion, and that's completely fair - I'm sure if I was male, I would have a slight preference to shaven women, but I wouldn't make such a big deal about it, and start throwing out stupid and simple arguments about hygiene (again, not necessarily aimed at you) and "oh she'll never find a man" (anyone hairy women I know have men), because really, it's just a bit of hair. And people are acting like it's so much more.

The woman in the article is rank, I nearly got sick eating a sandwich when I saw the pics last week.

To be fair though I don't know any women who don't find hairy armpits, legs etc on another woman equally as disgusting as any man does. I've seen women look away in disgust on holidays on seeing a women by the pool with hairy pits.

On the other hand, men should not be saving their legs, chests etc.
