Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Twin enclosure in an Astra?
Make sure it is a match for those subs.
    Could be a tight fit.:P

I had one, of the correct volume for the subs, in the boot of a corsa so it should be easy in an Astra.

A couple of tricks I did with that install that might work for you.

Those sub boxes were attached to the back of the rear seat, not the floor, so to access the spare wheels/tools etc you just fold down the rear seat, which moves the subs out of the way, then the floor panel with the amps on it was hinged so it too opened. So no loss of spare wheel or need to disconnect/remove any of the sound system:cool:

And done! Was tough to get the new wires to go through the rubber trunking on the boot hinge, but plenty of lube (Thats what she said) got it through. Didn't quite fit into the boot handle either, so out with the dremel to modify both the handle and the camera. Impressed with it and the guide lines on screen, but it also gives a reverse signal to the navigation so it can know when you're doing a U turn and update the screen accordingly.

Will stick up a photo of the handle with the camera peeking out later on too.

I should have worded it better.
It is not a matter of banging a box together with 2 holes for the subs. They to be matched in volume to sound right.

    Nice kit there
    Did you make that yourself?

That's what I meant too, those sub boxes where the correct volume for the subs.

Myself and a mate made it, that's about 8 years ago now.

Collected it from CleanCar after Larry has spent some serious man hours correcting the paint - Washed, de-tarred, clayed, full three stage machine polish, sealed with a coat of Jetseal 109 and two coats of Pete's 53, tyres dressed, windows polished and wheels cleaned and waxed. I picked up a few extra bits & bobs from him as well to maintain it including some CG Speed Wipe as a drying aid and Gliptone liquid leather cleaner and conditioner.

Whilst Larry was finishing up, I removed the steering wheel trim and wrapped in textured carbon fiber vinyl, as the original plastic was starting to look a bit worse for wear ...

    IMG_3185.jpg

I'll get some shots of the car over the weekend once the carbon CSL boot is fitted.

Would you mind me asking how much it cost for the paint correction? The Alfa 159 could use it badly. PM if you wish. :)

The cleaner is basically an APC rather than a leather-specific cleaner.

So, used the motor for the first time since I've put the regulator in, and while out and about gave the window a test. Low and behold she came back up no problem. Now it was a little sluggish for the first third, but nowhere like it was before, and I'm even thinking it may have always been like that. I have a theory on what's changed from when it was stopping halfway, but anyone wanna hazard a guess?

Did you grease up the scissor arms and the rollers?

Nope, neither are on this model. I haven't actually done anything else, something in the windows environment has changed so to speak.

    Well in spite of the rain trying to hamper and interrupt progress, today I've managed to;

Clean out the EGR valve after leaving it soak in a bucket of diesel all night.
Cleaned out the throttle butterfly with carb cleaner.
Re-assembled the lot and re-fitted it.
    Replaced the manky air filter.
    Replaced the fuel filter.
Cleaned a pile of muck from the underside.

Job done until I can get a blanking kit ;)

    Before
    valve1.jpg

    After

    Before

    After

    After

    After

    And throttle before

    After

Still running rough after all that so fault finding continues :(

Sounds like a bad regulator/motor to me?

    Did you replace both?

it's either one of those two or the rubbers and incorrectly placed on the runners.

Just in from the car. Been trying to figure out for the last 2hours why the hell theres not a peep from the subs. I kniw im doing something stupid thatll be an easy fix in the morning, at least i hope. It would have topped off what was a good day but disaster instead

  • Moderators, Home & Garden Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 7,717 Mod ✭✭✭✭delly

Well when i switched the regulator at first, it was up a bit then stopping, and this went on on the day. So I was trying to figure it out as I think it was making contact towards the inner point, lubing it up and faced with the possibility of opening it up again. It is possible that the motor is a little weak as well, but what changed today was, or at least in my theory was, that the car was running.

I had been arsing around for the guts of 3 hours, doors open, keys in, up and down with the button etc. So my theory was that testing it after the few hours may not have been the best. Not that the battery was drained or anything, but just enough to make it struggle. As I say, today while driving it will go up and down fully without stopping, although the first third is slow, so I don't doubt there is another element at play, but the major problem I think was testing it on battery after a few hours. Sound plausible?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,694 ✭✭✭✭L-M

    Sounds very confusing!

i've had two e46 coupes and two saloons, both windows went up and down seemlessly!

  • Moderators, Home & Garden Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 7,717 Mod ✭✭✭✭delly

Lol, and I'm sure they did on this one at one stage as well, maybe I'm being too pedantic. They only two theory's are that the motor has been stressed a bit, so in that case it may go at some stage, or the other theory is the the window is maybe a millimetre or two pushed into the inner guide giving it a touch extra resistance.

As I say, it is working fully now, but just a touch slower than the passenger window. No more embarrassing order taking at the McDonalds drive thru.
