Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Was given an old desktop as a bonus for a job I did - I have someone who is interested in it to run Windows/Linux/Umbuntu etc

    It is made by MaxData
    Intel Pentium4 2.40Ghz CPU
    1 Gb of Ram
    Basic Graphics Card
    40GB WD Hard Drive
    Windows XP Professional
    Floppy and CD Drive

Just wondering what would be a fair price for it
    Cheers

Just checked on this site http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp
And with current configuration and CPU overclocked to 2.8 power usage is calculated at 389 watts
Is that PSU know to be defective? I have used it for years with no problem
High end servers wouldnt use that much power!!

I have 2 pentium 4 processors that I'm looking to sell, I'm just wondering what kind of price to be looking for?

    P4 extreme edition 3.73GHz
    P4 2.93GHz

    both LGA775.

I had a look at ebay, and the 3.73GHz was pretty expensive, surely they're not still that price?!

i suppose you have lga 775 p4 3.0 GHz HT and 3.5 GHz HT

first one around 15 euros the other one not more than 20 =]

    @ Chalky

Take a look at this. Someone with the same extreme edition earlier this year.

    http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/298729-10-intel-confidential-engineering-sample-1066

It talks about the sellers on ebay.

Conclusion: Not that good but not that bad either.
    Range for P4 EE 3.73GHz: $20 - $90

My advice: Get all the information you can about the cpu. If you have the box and everything that came with it great. If not, make sure you know exactly which one your selling.
This one is a slightly different model and its worth a lot more.

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/INTEL-Pentium-EE-965-3-73Ghz-775-CPU-3-73-1066-NEW-/320556201801?pt=CPUs&hash=item4aa2a37749

Download CPU-Z or HWM Black Box. Programs for looking at the hardware. That is if its still in a running PC. Take a screen print with the tool, stick it up for $90 and see what happens. With that info you have a better chance of getting an enthusiast to take a look at yours.

    Best of luck.

    Rough Guide for you

    PC

    case - 89.75
    cpu - 160.36
    mobo - 158.00
    ram - 37.41
    cpu cooler - 30.00
    gpu - 145.54 x 2 = 292
    psu - 92.69
HDD - 120 (HDD price was estimated. HDD's new today are unrealistic due to flooding and will come down soon.)
    SSD - 80
    dvd - 20

    PC - 1079 new today from hardwareversand.de

    6 months - <1 year with receipts & warranty: 70% = 755

    1 year+ & no receipts: 50% = 540

    Peripherals (Typical Adverts.ie prices)

    24" - 150
22" x 2 - 150 (Monitors could be worth more. There was no model numbers so took them as basic 22" & 24" models)
    mouse - 35
    keyboard - 35
    headset - 20

    Total: 390

    No receipts

Sell it all together. Stick it up for E1000. Have loads of pictures of the monitors set up looking really well with PC. Add manufacturer links to all the main bits of hardware. Cpu , mobo, crossfire gpu's & psu. Throw in the games & OS as a bonus for anyone offering asking price.

I take it your leaving the gaming world as you will have to give up your steam/origin account to give the games away. (Battlefield anyway. Not sure about others).

You could always try push for more but that seems like a fair price.

anyone got any idea how much a laptop is worth for parts? its a hp pavillion dv2000, graphics card is fecked due to a design fault with hp (overheats and solder melts so it dislodges causing no picture). i've had it fixed but it happened again after a week, couldn't be bothered fixing it again as i got a new laptop. everything else is good, screen, keyboard, battery (less than 6months old), charger, hard drive, the lot!

Cheers for the estimate voojeq, think if thats all its worth I'll keep it. Sure the sound card alone was 220 when it was built, but it is a few years old at this stage. Do you know if it would be possible to put a new board in that case that could support a better processor and more ram?

yeah devaluation is quite problematic with desktops but most people buy these to enjoy the upgrades if you dont upgrade then machine becomes worthless within 5 years

i really dont know what PSU you have, I suggest 500w minimum and good brand, voltage is important and ensures that all components have enough power

as for the case i see this is a midi tower then any atx board will fit which is good

you could go with amd mainboard and bulldozer cpu, they're relatively cheap and comparable to i7 if your budget is tight, if not then go for i5 or i7

btw your graphics card also could be upgraded the 7900 you have works with directx 9 only, you can find used ones which work with dx 10 on adverts (9800 GT for example) for 50 clams

Cheers for that, I'll defo look into getting the new board, im not too pushed about the graphics card for now though cause I have a gaming laptop, i mainly want to upgrade cause I use the pc for photoshop, which works grand but as soon as i open the interweb or itunes or something while PS is running it slows down to buggery

I have an Asus Eee pc 4g netbook purchased in September 2008 from PC World for around €300. It's in perfect condition and has a pink lid/cover. I have bought a new Asus laptop and now want to sell my netbook to try recoup some of the costs of the new laptop. Any ideas as to how much my netbook is worth if I put it up for sale? Thanks

  • Registered Users Posts: 282 ✭✭voojeq

there were more than two versions of this netbook you'd have to have a look at the box and see whether its a asus EEE 700 or 900 where 900 is more expensive

i'd ask 100 euro for EEE 700 if all is there ( box etc) and up to 200 if its a 900 version

Thanks so much for your reply. I don't have the box, threw that out when I bought it-wups! Didn't realise I should have kept it! Is there any other way for me to tell what model it is? Is it now worth less as I don't have the box anymore!? I do have a case for it though!

There should be a sticker on the base of the laptop which should tell you if its the 700 or 900, alternatively if you right click on "my computer" and go to properties it might say it in there

If you're planning to sell the item in future then you should keep the box and receipt, if netbook breaks down then the buyer can always send it off for warranty and you would need the original box to do that.

Since you've bought it back in 2008 then I suppose its already out of warranty so no worries. Lack of box will affect the price but only a little now.

I've never owned an Asus EEE so its hard to tell where can you find the specs on it. Like mentioned have a look into my computer and its properties. If you still cannot find it let us know what it says there and I'll try to help as 700 versions had Celeron CPU.

Right click my computer -> Properties -> General Tab and Computer Name Tab are the ones of your interest

    EDIT:

nvm that i've found a list with Asus EEE pc's and looks like your is one of the first ones that came out

    http://event.asus.com/eeepc/comparison/eeepc_comparison.htm

its right at the bootom of this list

giving that you can put it up on adverts for 150 euro and dont go below 100 =]

Thanks for all that information! I put it up on boards.ie for 150Euro as advised. I won't part with it for less than 100. Ideally 125 though! Thanks for all your help! :)

It's next to worthless/useless given it's age and spec. I hope you don't have any major plans for it.

Agreed, not sure what you would do with it. Would probably struggle to load most modern web pages.
