Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Some from my phone last saturday and sunday. Finally found a good place to watch landings at Wellington International. Must get decent camera and go up again some sunny day. Sadly nothing bigger then a 757 lands there but its a cool airport!

Thats where you need to be right under that 738 Sir as it looks like the runway is on a hill, cool snaps.

They are excellent pictures from a phone. Seems like a great place to be for spotting, look forward to seeing some more when you go back. Thanks for sharing.

Its just a Sony Ericsson K810i, not expensive at all any more and has a 3.2 megapixel camera. Ideal for basic shots on the move.

Wait till you see shotsfrom my house, I'm overlooking wellington harbour and depending on the wind I can see streams of 737s and Q300s coming in every evening with commuter flights from all over new zealand. Its a cool approach too, right between two hills.

Am going up for my first lesson in a Piper Tomahawk on Sunday so I'll make sure and get some more snaps on the ground and in the air. :)

It looks like some of the aircraft in the pictures have seen a better days. I thought that liner are washed up regularly to reduce the drag/?/
Reminds me of some military a/c after a few weeks of frontline duty, such a filthy yokes.

Thats still a nice shot...showing the 2 heavies beside each other. Gives a nice comparison. And nice that the B747 is SQ,the only other operator of A380.
Am off to JFK this week will have the camera ready to try get the EK A380. Was that on taxi in or near your parking stand?

The two were parked beside gate A7 in terminal 4. Local time was 5.00pm when I took the shot. SQ and EK have lounges on the floor above the one where this shot was taken. Have a good trip.

Thanks a mill for the advise Steyr, here are a few more for yeh, hope you like 'em.

We took a flight around part of Vancouver Island, fantastic time, and a along came an Otter to fly along side us for a while. Our pilot Bryan, told us that it was unusual for them to fly together and if we would e-mail him a copy of the photos, so I did. From what I hear from Bryan, no one else e-mailed any photos to him, typical eeh (real Canadian slang that)

forgot to mention, thats the Number 5 painting hanger here in Lufthansa technik in Hamburg.

Two 747s as you can see comfortably fitting in the hanger. both are jacked off the ground with landing gears removed.

Normally, taking photos here is strictly forbidden. (because they are generally privatly owned planes) but, this was for a power point presentation and is allowed. :D

Seriously now, what size of paintbrush are yous using?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,190 ✭✭✭Silenceisbliss

    interesting fact;

both the 747-200 (foreground) and the 747-400 (background) like most other planes reqire two coats of green primer and one coat of paint. so three coatings in all.

ONE coating of primer on JUST the vertical stabalizer on the tail weights up at 85kg

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,752 ✭✭✭cyrusdvirus

I seem to remember reading somewhere that the paint job on a C5 Galaxy weighs upwards of 5 tonnes...

That's a lot of make up for a big lady

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 43,028 ✭✭✭✭SEPT 23 1989

Silenceisbliss just wondering are the corporate logos masked out and sprayed on or are vinyl graphics used on the aircraft?

Sorry totally OT, but just out of curiosity:

Is there such a thing like degreasing the airframe before the paint application or sanding between the coats?
And one more thing what make of paints are you using?
