Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'd argue that as a man with so much experience, who was writing a blog post about how messy and untidy the current photography world is, that he perhaps intentionally made sure to use an image that conveyed the feeling of his post, no?

undesirable look lines that are different widths and heights which make it look some what messy and untidy to look

Isn't this exactly how he's portraying the have-a-go-photography scene that exists today?

I would agree with you if his post was about how level and perfect the world is for photographers today, but clearly that's not the case.

There are many new posters here, so it may be worth mentioning that Flickr has a Boards.ie group, for easy sharing of images.

    Quick Question.
How do i get to DML (Unit 5, Western Business Park, Oak Close, Dublin 12)
I don't know the dublin bus routes too well and i not sure if the Luas is near by (walking distance). I’m going to be in Dublin possibly Thursday night so will be in town on Friday morning and need to get to the above location.
If not i will be getting the bus down on Friday morning and i was wondering would it just be as easy to get off at the airport and grab a taxi over and bus it to the city?

    http://maps.google.com/maps/place?cid=13658397282998588490&q=dml,dublin&hl=en&ved=0CDgQhgUwAQ&sa=X&ei=IiqfTfO5K8_OjAehwoyuCw

Edit : I see that the red line Luas stops at the Red Cow roundabout. I’m guessing it’s a short stroll over to the Western Business Park?

Read the description of the link you just posted!
Transit: Red Cow (1.0 km S)
    Red

You could walk, or get a taxi from the Luas stop

  • Registered Users Posts: 223 ✭✭akaspike

Thanks Tallon, I didn't spot that.
    Perfect.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,699 ✭✭✭ThOnda

Errr, not so quickly. I've worked across the road and it is fair long walk from Luas. Deffinitely not accessible from Red Cow stop, you would have to walk around. The best is to get bus. The stops are New Nangor Road or Nangor Road. The bus takes a bit of time to get there, but it isn't as bad as the walk from the Naas / Longmile road LUAS stop.

  • Registered Users Posts: 223 ✭✭akaspike

    Thanks ThOnda.
Checked the walking distance from the Red Cow and it was saying 45mins, So if i factor in Luas time plus walking it probably would be as handy to get the bus from in Town. I’d be right in saying that the bus number is 151 ? (http://www.dublinbus.ie/en/your-journey1/timetables/all-timetables/151/).

What kind of light are you doing it in? Maybe get a changing bag. I bought one in Gunns for €20 or so. I was sick of waiting until night time to load the dev tank.

Don't think this is worth a thread as it's possibly probably a stupid question :o but presume that the only way to get the red bus in the below picture is by taking it in B&W and then processing it in photoshop?

Take it in colour, open in it an editor, mask the bus and desaturate the rest.

    Hi guys,
I'm just wondering if someone with a lot more knowledge than myself could tell me if its possible to get lens accessories for a Nikon p80. I've tried looking and have seen that you can get bits and pieces but if someone with more knowledge than me could let me know I'd really appreciate it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,699 ✭✭✭ThOnda

What do you mean by lens accessories? Do you mean filters, lens cap, lens hood or anything else?

Apologies for being so vague, yes lens caps, a hood possibly and anything else that could be attached to improve shots or do something different.

I am not looking at anything in particular at the moment, however I would like to give myself options and I have had no luck so far looking myself.

Such accessories are most often model specific. Going into a store with larger selection of accessories would give you good idea. Most of the staff in big stores, like Gunns and others have nice selection and loads of knowledge. Bring your camera with the lens with you and have a chat.
And if they are not very busy, they should tell you a bit.
    But quickly:
Lens Hood - prevents rain and sun (light) falling onto the front element and that improves basic image quality (unless you intent to go against such rules).
Polarising filter helps with reflected light from non-metalic surfaces - clears water, removes reflections in the grass, enhances colours.
Effect filters can for example create stars from background spot lights.
From many, these few are the first you might consider for further investigation (books, google).

''A flying bolt end knocked Waco photographer Jervis C. Deane from the press platform, ripping through his right eye and lodging in his brain. Miraculously, Deane didn't just survive but stood, dusted himself off and gave his two brothers—photographers themselves—"minute directions about the finishing of the pictures he had taken." Deane would remain a photographer in Waco until 1901''

Very off topic but an interesting read

i'd be of the opinion that while legally you have the right to take any photos on public ground, it doesn't necessarily mean you're not an asshole for doing so.

I agree ... and its mainly what I do !! ... there is usually a moral issue when it comes to fatal accidents etc, while you must do your job.... at the end of the day ...its someone's husband/wife/brother/sister etc etc.

Do you legally have the right to photography anything on public ground? Surely not.

    Yes

The only place our rights are set out is in the Constitution and the ECHR. Both make absolutly no reference to photographing in public so NO. We do not have a "right" to photograph anyone or anything in public.

You do not have an outright entitlement to photograph someone in public. All individuals have a right to privacy. Obviously their right to privacy is restricted while in public. Photography is a form of expression so there must be a balance between your right to expression and the subjects right to privacy. There are a huge number of factors that can sway the balance to either side.

Nobody has an unlimited right to ANYTHING.
