    Hi,

I'm thinking about renewing my laptop and i'd be grateful if you guys could help me estimate my machine's worth. I've read the charter and i know that i have to take it to the for sale forum for the actual sale.

The machine was built on 22/10/2004. I'm away from home at the moment so i can't take any pictures right now. Laptop is in great condition and the battery is as new as i have really only used it away from the mains 4-5 times. Here are the specs.

    Dell Inspiron 8600c
    1Gb DDR 333 Memory
    60GB 7200rpm hard drive
    DVD + CDRW combo 24x
    Intel Pentium M, 1.7Ghz, dothan core, 2MB L2
    Windows Xp Home, licenced.
    Geforce 5200go with 64Mb memory
BATTERY, PRIMARY, 11.1V, 9C, LITHIUM, SONY
    56K modem
    100Mb Network
    Intel 2200BG Wireless Lan
    15.4 inch TFT widescreen 1680* 1050, perfect

Sorry if i left anything out, just let me know. Thanks.

    On boards, i reckon around 800-900 :).

I've a similar system, just with a higher spec. I'd say buy and sell you'd be lucky to get €1000. On boards probably €750 or so.

That's deprication for you. a 2.8 with 512 ram is now worth about....300 maybe? :D

Netwhiz, its a nice pc apart from the shoddy graphics and could be a decent gaming pc if upgraded a bit. I'd say here you'd get about 700, Buy and Sell easily 900-ish...

Yeah I remember I cut the graphics budget well to come under €1500 last year, The graphics card had performed admirably only once or twice failing to perform on the Simulator game "Railroad Tycoon 3" What exactly would a good card be? I wouldn't mind upgrading it maybe, They told me when i bought it that the system as a whole was very future friendly and if invested in sometime during the future could live possibly for 10yrs  I hope they are right! I'd love to find out what is a good graphics card and which is a great card ! I could budget up to around €300 but I'm not really into gaming still I'd love to have "that perfect rig"

B&S, you'd get probably 600 or so, it's not a bad pc for your run of the mill family pc for general light use, pretty poor for gaming though, I'd say maybe 400 on boards, very weak gfx, small hard drive, no dvd drive, etc...tft really brings up the price though. For the base unit by itself, about 220-250 on boards.

There is upgrade possiblity there though. Swap the fx5200 for a 6600, up the ram to 1024 and throw in a dvd drive, you're grand for another while.

Steveland that's a decent pc besides the fx5200. Worth about 350/400 on boards.....probably get 600 on B&S for the tower alone. If you swapped that 5200 for a 6600 or even a 6800 you'd be sorted for playing fairly recent games at a nice level.
