Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Could be a few years, Alan shatter wants to use this campaign to fill positions for the next 2/3 years. Don't hold your breath!

seeing as the Public Appointments service has around 5000 applicants that passed the qualifying mark i cant see an advertisement (regardless of justice minister) for quite some time, im sure after this campaign it will start moving smoothly again

    Hey all,

I did the LCA years back, i am dyslexic, but I was never tested. I was well behaved and would of always considered myself of above average intelligence, minus the typical traits of a dyslexic ;). I found school to be very frustrating and found LCA to be a blessing. As a result of doing the LCA am in a career I love and at under 30 i earn 40,000+ PA.

LCA teaching style suited me and kept me disciplined though out the 2 years, with regular assignments and tests that made up your final grade it would keep you focused and prepared for college and the workplace.

Why? Your employer expects you to be on your A game 24/7 not just for a few weeks of the year, LCA prepares students for this.

How does cramming and regurgitating a few books make you more intelligent?

Personally I feel the LA point base system is out dated, many i know personally and professionally have university degrees and to be quite frank their not wrote the paper they are printed on, Not to be dismiss-of of those who are studious and are hard working, but these days tech jobs (in particular) have no coloration between the degrees people posses and the roles they have or are suited for.

If you have any questions, pls ask.

    Hi reformus,

not sure where the above post have come from but anyway..

In my opinion the last point you make is a bit off the mark,
what about the sectors such as healthcare, teaching, engineering?
would a staff nurse not have a nursing degree in kind,? civil engineer etc, teacher (Bed),
other sectors out there besides tech,i know there is some variety in tech alright
how do you mean degrees arent worth the paper they are written on???.
people put a lot of hard work and effort into degrees, and it can get them on a career ladder the stronger degree behind them.

Leaving cert prepares students for the working world, constant projects and exams over the school year, just like LCA, not to diss LCA but there is a big jump between the two, to say the LCA prepares more than LC is flawed in my view,

LCA is a waste of time and not worth the paper it's printed on. I know this because I was stuck in LCA a few years ago and it has no progression for students in terms of education or even work now.

You can't go into third level, you now can't get into many public sector jobs like Gardai with it and I believe it's a course that should be discontinued immediately.

Era it will be 300 to 500 pa for the foreseeable future so it will come about..

To those straight out of school..go away and live your life for a bit first!

Its a good sign if the 500 figure is coming from the commissioner as at least she is aware of the impact of the recruitment ban had on the numbers. Increased recruitment would be great but its limited by the numbers that can get through Templemore. Perhaps throughput can be increased there but not sure what its limitations are. Is the 100 recruits at a time limited by accommodation on site or by the actual training facilities ?

Its a number of factors... accommodation definitely is one, but also teaching resources (classrooms and number of tutors). From what I've heard going forward there will be 4 intakes of 125 per year. That will make up the 500 figure and is the most manageable way to do it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 209 ✭✭Copaholic

Id say that you are spot on with the 125, 4 times a year. If that prevails than its about as good as anyone can expect.

I joined in 2005 and at that stage they were taking over 250 every 3 months. The college was redeveloped to accommodate this and lots of accommodation was provided by locals as dig.

This might be affected by the new training programme though as the length of the training phases are different.

Recruitment is badly needed, read something today about Francis Fitzgerald not forwarding the breakdown of personnel across different districts to fianna fails justice spokesperson, despite requesting the figures for the last 5 months.

I'd say everyone in Templemore is hoping to get one of these 3 new stations
Kevin St looks like something from Hawaii 5-0

Fair play to them. I heard the commissioners son didn't make it - and he was in the reserves.

No link as I doubt AGS publicise that sort of thing but afaik he is still in the GR. Fairly talented with the oul photography alright, he won an INTERPOL comp there last year for a picture he took at a crime checkpoint with the RSU in the frame.

Posted this few years ago and got dogs abuse...good to see its being looked at now. I was offered a place in AGS last year but turned it down. Conditions terrible. I know 2 people who joined in last couple of years and have left already. Hope members get what they deserve soon. Best of luck.
