done my shopping earlier so Im all set. will take one last weight measure in the morning and then put away the scales until the end. Going to get a dominoes this evening I think as one last meal before the start. Have been eating 80% paleo for the last 3 weeks so I need a cheat day before going 100% :D

Egg loaf in the oven :)

I ran all my veg through the fine grater of the food processor - half a small butternut squash, 2 small parsnips (woody part removed), red onion, 1 courgette (seedy part removed).

Fried up a pack of pork mince (M&S, outdoor bred, €3.50) added in a tablespoon or so of sausage seasoning - see below - great recipe, I make up a jar of it at a time.

Add the veg & let it soak up the juices and soften a bit

In a large bowl, crack 9 egg (going for 6 portions) whisk up with salt & pepper and a splash of water, add your meat & veg mix and stir until well combined.

    eta - finished product

    f6711ab60b1e11e2bde812313b08e061_6.jpg
Pour in to a lined (with foil or greasproof) roasting tin and bake at gas 4/180 until done, about 30-40 minutes.

Divide into 6 portions. I usually put 4 pieces in a lunchbox in the fridge and 2 in the freezer.

Zap in microwave for 1 minute each side to reheat

***Frick, just realised I forgot to add my spinach, grrrr.

Italian Sausage Seasoning from Well Fed

    4 teaspoons dried parsley
    1 tablespoon dried Italian herbs
    2 teaspoons ground black pepper
2 teaspoons coarse (granulated) garlic powder
    2 teaspoons paprika
    4 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1 1/2 teaspoons fennel seed (listed as optional, but in my humble opinion this ingredient is crucial in an Italian sausage! )

Mix these ingredients together and add a few spoons to your meat. I doubled the recipe and it filled a mason jar so I could use it again. Delish. You’ll want to mix it up well, of course.

Eh no ted. Are you in Dublin? The butcher in ilac sells billtong which is compliant. It's the south African version of jerky.
Ideally you won't be snacking and if you do need one it should be a mini meal.

All set... Meatloaf from everyday paleo in the oven... Breakfast & lunch prep'd
Will take my measurements before bed, got strongman training at 6.30 so not a chance of me doing them before that!

I too need to stop the almond butter overdoses, mega addiction!

Oh look here comes the girl with the dopey questions ....
does this taste "eggy" ? - one of the reasons that paelo seems difficult for me is that I don't eat eggs or fish. I hate quiche and omlettes but this looks kind of good but don't to waste all of that food to find out I don't like it.

Ah feck it. I'll survive anyway! Just ate nine Babybels, so the fridge is clear for tomorrow. I have eggs, steak, mince, mushrooms, onion, bacon and broccoli to last until Thursday. And a lot of butter, which I'll be longing for over the next thirty days!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,934 ✭✭✭Dotcomdolly

@boxer. Less eggy than quiche as there's so much meat & veg in it but might still be too much. You could do a mini test version.

@funkz. Double check your bacon is sugar free. Butter freezes well if you want to save it out of sight. Or make clarified butter or ghee for cooking with.

So how is Day 1 going guys?

Try to remember that while your Whole30 is a big deal… it’s not really that scary at all. It’s just 30 days of eating real food that tastes great and nourishes your body—simple, natural, easy!

Writing on my phone so it's difficult to say much. Though so far I've eaten four eggs, and a packet strawberries. I bought avocados but they're rock solid, and fit for the bin. Disappointing. Later I'll be having eggs, butternut squash and maybe some form of meat for dinner, onions and maybe some broccoli. Feeling good =]

Don't throw out your avocados. They'll ripen in a few days. If you want them to ripen faster, apparently placing them in a brown bag with a banana is supposed to help them ripen more quickly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,934 ✭✭✭Dotcomdolly

Don't throw out the avo's, Blueskye is correct. It's really hard to buy just right avo's so I always buy ahead & ripen at home.

And do remember to follow the meal template for every meal
Animal protein + lots of veg + fat and add seasoning :)

    Day 1 for me

7.30am slice of egg loaf & black coffee

9.30am - Gym, Wave 5/3/1 of Bulgarian Split Squats, close grip bench press, one arm rows

11.30am - Cinnamon coffee with coconut milk

12.45 - chesnut mushrooms, cherry tomatoes & spinach fried in ghee with 2 slices bacon & a fried egg

3pm - few carrot sticks & some sun-dried tomato pesto at a fellow w30'ers house, decaf coffee

5.45pm - Cottage Flower Pie from Well Fed with white cabbage sauteed in ghee.

then had some sliced banana (less than one small one) & coconut milk...not necessary or clever, but the kids wanted "desert" so I was making it for them and wanted some for me!

Butternut squash and broccoli in the oven. Gonna fry some meat with it. I kept the last avocado, only bought two! What's everyone's take on goose fat? Saw some in Tesco!

Day 1 done :) was good, felt a little hungry in the eve as I got delayed at work and didn't really want to eat a snack, dinner wasn't going to be far away...

    Here's how it went:

05:30 handful of hazelnuts & an espresso

06:15 1 hr of strongman bootcamp

08:00 made a wrap from thin plain omelette, smoked salmon & avocado

    13:30 chicken & beetroot salad

19:30 everyday paleo meatloaf, roast butternut squash & brussel sprouts

Couple of green teas throughout the day... Drank soooo much water, office was roasting so kept wanting the stuff...

Feeling a bit tired but usually am around now with the early starts...

Day 2 breakfast & lunch is in the fridge ready to go.

    hey all,
looks like its all going well for everyone...
I finished my first W30 last tue, and only really had milk in my coffee, felt gassy and a bit queasy but not bad so friday night I had 3 glasses of vino (YUM) and felt great on sat morning ( slight headache) so as the day went on I was telling myself all is good, sure go on have a slice of pizza ( tiny tiny) and sure go on have a bottle of Sol.......que 3 hours of vomiting and severe stomach cramps.....sorry!! think it was a combination of things, but it scared the hell out of me, spent most of the day in bed yesterday, managed a hard boiled egg and a bit of grilled chicken, feeling better today but stomach is tender, so kept my food pretty plain
meal 1 - left over chicken breast, hard boiled egg and spoon of coconut oil
meal 2 - chicken salad, homemade coleslaw, toms, spinach, rocket.
Meal 3 - homemade burger, beef mince, onion, chili, parsley and cauliflower rice from well fed.
I have a huge beef stew in the slow cooker loads of veg including sweet potato...
    Day 1 down...bring it on!!! :)

shanasue, that was a brutal lesson :eek:but looks like you are doing great now.

Well done on Day 1 reality_check - do try to eat more veg +fat & follow the meal template. This isn't a weight-loss high protein/low-carb diet, it's 30 days of clean eating for health.

Hope everyone has a great day 2, plan for me is egg loaf, green fish curry, "comfort noodles" (from www.theclothesmakesthegirl.com)

Left over dinner from last night in the fridge which I'll have in a few minutes. Then I'll have some veg and eggs before going to college. And I'm going to pick up some coconut oil and goose fat later!

Yum , bet sweet potatoes roasted in goose fat would be great!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,179 ✭✭✭FunkZ

I'm sure they will, I'd imagine anything roasted in goose fat would be delicious! I'm going to use goose fat, egg and almond flour to make a chicken goujon like coating sometime this week!

I made this chicken schnitzel recipe before which could easily be adapted for goujons. Arrowroot is W30 okay-ed.

I've stopped buying goose fat, now I buy some duck legs that I roast and drain off the fat into a jar. I also have a whole duck in the freezer, there should be loads of fat in that. You get a good dinner and fat to cook with.

I'm not doing it for two reasons, I've just(today) finished my own 60 day clean eating and it's my birthday god help anyone that gets between me and a slice of cake.

I'm also not really sure about how they allow sweet potato but not ordinary potato. I always find I work better on the normal kind, I'm thinking it might be a goitrogen thing. I never really saw what was wrong about normal potatoes.

Where can you get a cheese cloth for making ghee too? (I'm not in dublin and don't have a tesco/dunnes/any worthwhile shop near enough but it'll be good to know where to keep my eye out)

    From the W9 site
Do not eat white potatoes. They are carbohydrate/calorie-dense and nutrient poor, and you’ve got an excellent, nutrient-dense option in sweet potatoes or yams.

And also because they tend to push more other better veg options off your plate.

Re the ghee, I split a sheet of kitchen roll in to 1-ply and line a sieve with it, works a treat. The ghee is a lot thinner than clarified butter and went through easily.

The whole nutrient poor/dense thing can be argued with (by Mat LaLonde at AHS) I'm not going to get into it, it's just something I noticed on the site that I don't agree with and that doesn't agree with me.

I never thought about using kitchen paper, I always presumed it just wouldn't go through. I'm going to have to try it soon.

I'm want to keep an eye on this thread, hopefully get a few ideas/tips from it.
