Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, especially their incredible debut album.

The Horrors, forget the first album, grab 2, 3 and 4, a constantly innovative band and it's a crime they ain't huge (also a blessing)

    The Knife
    Andrew WK
Robyn (some great cheesy as fcuk pop)

The Gaslight Anthem. Maybe not underrated but not as appreciated as much as they should be IMO. Brian Fallon is a lyrical genius.

Notable mentions to Brand New and Jamie T as well.

There have been some great Irish bands who , for whatever reason, don't make the big time. When this subject ever rises the first band that always springs to mind are
    Picturehouse.
There was always a great party atmosphere at the gigs and its great to see them back out gigging again.

    From a while back..
    Studio

    Live

    And from this year..

The Wildhearts are without doubt the greatest band to ever form and the fact that we got so far into this thread and I am the first to mention them shows how underrated they are.

Primus. Granted they are big in the states but not so much here.
They are excellent and Les Claypool is one of the best bass guitarists in history

Stereophonics. Seen them at least 20 times. Great live, great songs, Kelly Jones has some voice.

From what I remember Hole were underrated, most of the media attention focused on what Courtney was getting up to but Live Through This is a deadly album.
