A must see film for anyone like their science fiction. A character driven film in which Sam Rockwell gives an incredible performance. They squeezed the life out of their £5m budget, I believe it will stand the test of time better than most sci fi films.

After the big reveal it lost interest for me. Sadly.

Unlike SILENT RUNNING which kept my interest until
    the very end.

    +1 for Freedom Writers
    great film.

Watch Star Wars Episode 4 a new hope.
I just love star wars. and always Im amazed how good the graphics hold up, even when compared to Episode 1-3, with the new age special effects.

and +10 for Moon. great film!

The boxer and In the name of the father- Hadnt seen them ever. But two good films and Day lewis is as per usual brilliant. Next one on the list The last of the mOhicans.
Dont know how I missed it.
Other recent ones Max payne - absolutlely brutal, have to agree with earlier post.
Also mission impossible (the latest one) good action and man on a ledge - decent but I got feeling the makers thought it was better than wat it is.

Man who shot Liberty Valance - classic Western about a guy who gets caught up in a guns-for-sale to Indians.

Was passing through the IFI yesterday and saw they were showing a 35mm print of Hannah and Her Sisters. Couldn't resist. It's one of my favourite Woody Allen films: just really hits the spot everytime I watch it. I love the character dynamics and it's full of vintage Allen one-liners. The cast have rarely been better, particularly Allen who sends up his neurotic screen (and real-life?) persona pitch-perfectly. Just a very warm, well-written film. Not even sure why I like it that much - considering the vast majority of the characters are assholes - but third time around and it's still a delight.

The Eagle: Channing Tatum & Jamie Bell...... so so gawd-damn bad!
    Centurion was much better

    The Ides of March

Gosling once again excels in his role as a smooth political press secretary, who finds his faith in charismatic State Governor George Clooney shaken, changing him from idealist to reluctant realist, eventually forced to play dirty in order to achieve his ambitions.

Nothing we haven't seen before in similar films, but a great cast and a smart script lifts this to a solid 4 out of 5.

    Headhunters

I saw this at JDIFF today, but I trust it will pop up in the IFI before long. It’s a Norwegian cat-and-mouse thriller about a professional art thief who picks the wrong target: a former mercenary (Jamie Lannister from GOT) who specialises in tracking people down. Numerous twists and turns follow.

Darkly comic and gruesomely violent, the film takes an almost perverse satisfaction in torturing its protagonist. Unfortunately, hard as it tries, No Country for Old Men this is not. I enjoyed it, but as European thrillers go this is closer to Cell 211 than Tell No One. Which is to say it’s very entertaining and well made, but hasn’t enough going on in terms of story to make me ever want to revisit it. Nevertheless, it’s an extremely well paced and smartly (if somewhat absurdly) plotted thriller that doesn’t take itself too seriously. It’s also got a smokin’ hot chick.

I assume the obligatory Hollywood remake is already in the works.

Panic in the streets - excellent movie from 1950 about a criminal on the run with the plague.

Dark Blue - gritty cop drama starring Kurt Russell and Brendan Gleeson, set in 1991/92 just before the LA Riots, about police corruption.
Good film, a bit intense at times. Russell is great in it.

    Watched Warrior

Had heard good things but wasn't really for me. Seemed to rely on Flashy editing, an intrustive soundtrack and a lot of characters who were poorly fleshed out e.g. The older brothers wife was the prime example. Prefer movies that allow the characters & script room to develop but felt this wasn't the case.

The fighter is in q different league to this.

Also if anyone has seen this did they think it was funny how the younger brother was meant to have deserted the marines in Iraq. Like how exactly do you do that and get back to the US? Maybe a bit nitpicky but just thought it was worth pointing out given it would be impossible.

Safe House, was ok, nothing amazing but there's worse films you could see, Reynolds is good and Denzel is...well he's Denzel. Didnt go down the route I thought it would given its title but I thought it was alright.

Dragging myself through the Blake Edwards' "Pink Panther" boxed set with one of my kids and either it's my memory or sense of humour but I'm not really enjoying them very much. I loved them years ago but now find the animation at the start of each movie better than the films themselves. There are some classic moments alright but some of the 'humour' is very repetitive especially when you watch them back to back. :(

Drive – best movie I’ve seen in a very long time.

Paranormal Activity 3 – The tension at times was unbearable. The camera panning side to side was genius. The trilogy far exceeded my expectations.

Myself and the missus sat down on Saturday night to watch Margin Call

Loved it! Found it very well made and really protrayed the ****-storm that came over those financial chaps so quickly in 2008...

It follows a 24 hour period in an investment bank after they find out that they are holding the biggest bag **** in terms of bad loans\etc and how they react to it

Kevin Spacey, Demi Moore, Paul Bettany, plus others star in this great film..

    The Tree Of Life:

Watched this on Saturday evening and I'm still unsure as to whether or not I enjoyed this. It seemed quite disjointed at times and I didn't follow it in some stages.

Some magnificent imagery at times though. Really breathtaking stuff. Still not sure if I liked it though. I feel quite impartial to it.

    A Dangerous Method:

Really enjoyed this a lot. I don't think it's David Cronenberg's finest film but it's an enjoyable nonetheless.

I'm not really Kiera Knightly's biggest fan but I thought she was outstanding in this. Played her character very well.

There was a few people after who felt that the film was "far too wordy" for their liking. It is very dialogue heavy but it's dialogue that keeps you interested and gripped in my opinion.

Very good film and Fassbender is on top form.

The Green Hornet - Meh, it was okay I guess, I only watched it to pass the time which it did! I hated the stop motion ( is that what it's called?) effect they did for the fight scenes, that was awful. Also, I'm not sure but was Seth Rogen's character supposed to be a complete and utter arsehole?

Ides of March - Crap, didn't make it through the whole thing.

In the last few months I find myself just turning off movies if they don't ''grab'' me, I never really did that before, weird.

    SlingBlade

Thought this was really good. Billy bob really deserved the oscar nomination. He plays a mentally impaired man just released from a psych hospital.

    4/5

As opposed to the action/adventure approach taking in previous Jung movies. :D

Aye. I was half tempted to turn around and say. "Were you expecting a gun battle between Freud and Jung?" :pac:

Watched Seven tonight, still stands up against any of the modern thrillers out there, brilliant film.

Pitt is very good in it and Freeman is, well Freeman is himself, as always! Class performance, and Spacey is quality too.

Almost enjoyed it as much tonight as the first time I saw it, I was extremely jealous of the girlfriend as it was her first time seeing it :)

    Paradise Now 2005

Two young men from the West Bank are "chosen" for a suicide bombing mission in Tel Aviv, they are shaved and given wedding suits with explosive belts. The story covers the day before and the mission day itself.
Interesting film, it didn't preach and felt very comfortable with a difficult subject. Excellent performances by the two main actors.

    Solid watch, would recommend.

Kill The Irishman, one of the worst films ive seen in a long time. Surprised at some of the actors who appeared in this.

Midnight in Paris(again)- Charming and very enjoyable. The guy who plays Ernest Hemmingway is hillarious.

Midnight in Paris is one of my favourite films of the year. I like the suggestion that Hemingway's love of Huck Finn was pre-empted by Owen Wilson :D

    Man On A Ledge:

Not a bad film overall. It reminded me of 'Inside Man' a little bit. I found it got a bit ridiculous towards the end in the final third but it started off very well and was very gripping.

I'm not Sam Worthington's biggest fan. I find him quite bland but he wasn't that bad in this.

Story is decent, suspense is eh... suspensful :pac: but just loses it's way towards the end I feel.

    Worth a watch though.

The thing I love about Seven is
that they don't show any of the gruesome murders taking place and it's left to the viewer to imagine what took place in their own mind.

    Fantastic film.
