Remains of the Day, usually try to avoid films like these, but heard alot about Hopkins in this and gave it a go. Great performance! Still not watching Downton Abbey!!

Mirage with Gregory Peck. Normally I link my post to the IMDB page that corresponds with it but I wont here. The reason I wont link to it is if you have not seen it check it out with no clue what you are in for. Will keep you guessing right up until the end and I think that is part of why this is so enjoyable.

I am a big Gregory Peck fan and I don't know how this one escaped my attention . I came upon it by chance and it is a fantastic film, well worth a watch.

I watched 'The Devils Double' earlier, I was put off watching it before because of all the negativity it was getting but I thought it was really good.

Dominic Cooper was fantastic and the story was really interesting. Another big plus was that a song from one of my favourite bands was in it too!

Dinner for Schmucks - Wasn't as bad as I expected/had read it would be. Steve Carrell provided a few laughs. The dinner scene itself was very poor. Not something I'm going to be racing back to watch anytime soon but ok all the same.

    Scanners

I loved the ideas, the effects, the performances. Thought it worked really well as a kind of parable about psychiatry and the pharmaceutical industry, but also really well as a body-horror/thriller. As always with Cronenberg there's a distractingly beautiful lady. The iconic moment blew me away, one of the most powerful cinematic images I've seen.

Great movie, but I have to say the acting by the main actor Stephen Lack is absolutely horrendous.

Been watching a few movies over the past few days.

After my annual Die Hard 1 December watch, I decided to dust off Die Hard 2, not having seen it for a good few years. Yes, it's not a patch on the original but a good watch none the less.

I watched Horrible Bosses. Really enjoyable leave your brain at the door flick. Love the whole Motherphucker Jones. Up there with MacLovin.

Also watched Contagion recently. Borrowed a lot from other sources but I thought it hung together quite well.

    True.

I mainly meant Patrick McGoohan, though I thought a lot of the actors in smaller parts conveyed the excruciating pain of something messing with you from inside your head well. And Michael Ironside scared the f*ck out of me.

    Watching Goodfellas at the moment.

Definitely my favourite gangster movie ahead of any of the Godfather trilogy, Casino, Carlito's Way et al. Can never not watch this movie when it's on, and Joe Pesci's character is an absolute gem.

Loved it! It's an old pre-WWIII - post apocalyptic movie, very realistic, very well made, great acting, very grim movie.

One of the greatest and most frightening films I've seen. Saw it when I was a child in 1984 when first broadcast on BBC and it's stayed with me til now.

    An excellent film.

very funny you brought this up. watched it about two weeks ago and the night before last the electricity went off in the house, dad came in and said there was a bright light in the sky – I immediately thought 'Jesus Christ Sellafield has exploded!!' powerful documentary!!

My Night with Maud - Really interesting 'morality tale' from Eric Rohmer. The story of a man with a strong sense of moral purpose in life, and how he deals with various situations (most romantic). There's a lot of talking about Pascal and other intellectual concerns, but mostly it's fascinating to see a film about relationships driven by strongly defined characters interacting with each other consistently and believably (even if each person occupies a different moral standpoint).

Just watched the recent version of Fright Night. Very enjoyable, just good old mindless fun. Colin Farrell and David Tenant were brilliant in very different ways.

    House of Sand and Fog.

Awful. Like a terrible Tv movie. Shame, as it could have been very good.

Mr BrooksWorse again. Started off quite good but then after a while the numbesr of conincidences and occasions of ridicule get to be too much.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - really didn't like it and couldn't wait for it to finally end. Jim Carrey was very good in it though.

We need to talk about Kevin - overrated but still a decent but depressing film. Have to admit the young Kevin had me in stitches with his bold behavior. When he **** his pants on purpose I couldn't stop laughing at the little bastard.

The Darjeeling Ltd (2007) and Masque of the Red Death (1964)

Wes Anderson doing his usual stuff, beautiful to look at esp the house of the dead child that's possibly the bluest blue I've ever seen! Lovely performances, even by Owen Wilson ;)

Masque is one of the best and most ambitious films by Roger Corman, who treats Poe with with respect. A splendidly realised fantasy medieval Italy, the set & costume design is a treat ditto Nic Roegs cinematography. This got its premier on the Horror Channel last night and was also the first ever 2.35:1 showing on UK telly. So hats off to them, they did a deal with Studio Canal (who own the rights for Masque) for 30 titles all in excellent condition, so if you are a fan of 60s/70s UK horror the Horror Channel is the place to be right now.

Quantum of Solace. I thought it was OK, although, it really seemed very non-epic compared to your typical Bond outing, not very transglobal as these things tend to be. A bit more personal, though perhaps that was the point off the back of CR? The baddy felt a bit thin. As for the action, elements seemed to come from the 'well, Bourne did this, so oh, hey, "let's just Xerox this bit and then, tada!" we have action. From the first foot chase to the close in hand-to-hand stuff, it was fairly Bourne inspired. However, I think they had Bourne's second production unit on board or something, didn't they? Seems fair enough.

Strange Circus - Not typical Christmas Eve fair :pac: Grotesque, disturbing and surreal: this is seriously not for the faint hearted. But under Sion Sono's intense but strangely thoughtful direction it becomes a fascinating study of trauma, taboos, fact vs fiction and identity. It's bold and occasionally overly brash, but the visual design is magnificent. Like all Sono's stuff it's messy, stuffed to the gills with ideas and has a casual disregard for narrative norms. Most importantly, it's utterly unique.

Downfall - A fantastic look at the last days of Hitler. He discovers his generals have been lying to him for months and the Russians are only days away from Berlin. We see Hitler in a more human light than in most movies and its an interesting sight to behold.

I watched muppet christmas carol yesterday :D

I couldn't find my old vhs copy so i had to aquire it online, be warned apparently all the dvd and blu-ray(if its out on blu-ray) copies which were released since have "When love is gone" cut out of it, which I found out much to my dismay :(

Apparently Disney didn't think it appealed to kids so they chucked it, it appealed to me when i was a kid dammit!
