Why do people like Eastenders???

    why do people like Eastenders, Corrination St., Emmerdale and worst of all Fair City.

    the storylines are stupid, the acting is realy realy bad, the sets are realy cheap looking,

    when they try to do comedy it's just cheesey and makes you cringe.

    Why in gods name would someone waste 1 minute of their life watching this junk?!?!

    I asked this question a few years ago..
    Some Wimmins told me the following

    Aparently it's to make them feel better about themselves.
    Cause even if you sit on your ass all day eating and watching T.v with a social life thats let you exclude that certain time 6 days a week,

    Your life still isnt as bad as the theirs...

    Woah woah woah! Hold on a minute there. I'm not a fan of any of them but let's not compare the acting in Coronation Street or even Eastenders with Fairly ****ty and Emmerdale.

    Fair City actors don't even try to act and Emmerdale is just a panto. That Eric guy looks like he should be tying some screaming wimmin to railroad tracks.

    The soaps are there to add some drama to otherwise boring lives. We have our football and the wimmins have their soaps.

    yeah I know what you mean. & I think most people who watch a lot of that **** know well how bad the shows are.

    Its the clever way in which they are made, get any **** story, but feed it bit by bit mixed with other **** stories that are only fed bit by bit.

    People are not always sitting there enjoying the show but watching it to see what happens next from the previous scene
    which they only watched cause they wanted to see what happens next from the scene before.... and so on and so forth till next thing you know they are all chatting about "what might happen next" at lunch break in work. Like old grannies!


    It's like a cancer I tell yea. & then these people would snigger at me for liking star trek or BSG!? bwaaaaaaahahhahahahahaha

    The only soap opera I ever had time for was an Australian one called Chance's back in the early 90s.

    It was awesome beyond belief.

    Funny you should say this, I personally never watch any of this stuff, but today in work I heard several of the men I work with discuss a buried alive plotline in one of them........and of course who they'd do if they got the chance!

    Well its a case of coming home from work and wanting something to watch that we don't have to think about. I agree that there are some really bad storylines but many of the soaps have some very fine actors. Especially Eastenders.

    We all like stories but women are more into the soaps as they are more about everyday things like mariage, affairs, jobs, emotions, socialising, family etc. I find us men more into factual stuff or drama

    Are soaps not dramatic? Plenty of men watch soaps they just pretend they don't like them.

    Lost is a soap. Are you complaining about that too? Try doing that in the lost forum and you will see how far you get.

    I watch Corrie. Its not fantastic acting, or tantalising plots, but who give a sh*t? Its regular and entertaining. Call me sad if you will but I have quite a stressful job, and so chilling in front of something which is not taxing on the brain is nice.

    OP, what do you watch. Give us a list of the programs you watch and I can find an equivalent that you watch, im sure of it.

    From wikipedia:

    That would define most drama's on television. So OP, which TV programs do you watch that do not fall into this category?

    Correct, though I do not think triviality comes into it.

    By this definition the following programs are soaps:

    Friends
    Lost
    Prison Break
    CSI
    The X files
    and yes, even Star Trek.

    Well I watch Star trek too. And it has a never ending storyline of sorts. I am not saying its exactly the same as Eastenders but by the above definition it is a soap.

    It was possibly one of the finest TV shows EVER :D and it also had the added bonus of a bit of nudity from time to time :) beat that Eastenders!!

    Agreed, star trek at is at least has some intelligence to it.
