I got to get myself an explorer. They look fantastic. I especially like the latest version. It would go well in the stable with my Polar Explorer II.

It sure would, that would be a great two piece collection. I want to add a 36mm OP or Tudor black bay 36mm next. Tudor is €1500-€2000. The OP would be atleast €4500 So I'm leaning towards the Tudor. I think for me, one Rolex is enough in the collection. Don't think I could spend north or 5k on a watch again.

Got married last month and decided to mark the occasion on honeymoon with this (Black Bay 36).

Decided on leather as this is to compliment my Aqua Terra which is always on bracelet, and was able to put the difference towards a hilariously expensive dinner at the Park Hyatt in Tokyo.

Like the look of Tudor watches but the case size seem to be huge on most models

I have small wrists so not a big fan of large case sizes. The BB 36 is 36mm however. 36-39mm seems to be the sweet spot for me.

The lume on the Oyster Perpetual isn't too bad at all. This is just from indoor lighting.

Obviously I've some time on my hands this week...I changed the strap on the OP 114300 to the leather one I have on standby. I've not seen this done anywhere yet for the new model (black and white versions) of the OP. [I tried to copy those stock hands in pocket watch shots, but it's harder than you'd think on your own...] I'm liking this watch a lot.

Picked up something a little different. Portuguese brand Prometheus, founded in 2008 and specialising in divers watches with minimum rating of 300m.

This is their Piranha model with a 500m rating, the respected Miyota 9105 (hacking, hand wind, etc) movement. Case is just on my limit at 44mm but wears smaller I think.

Lume strong enough to use as a flashlight :D

Have a couple of nice straps to go with it to give me more versatility.

Lovely watch. Interested in the brand but their website is very poor.

It has the feel of one of those fake stores you accidentally click on through a Facebook ad.

Thankfully their watches are a lot better built than their website.

Did you consider the 36mm OP in black when you were buying?

Yes and no. I thought about it but know that I really think 36mm is too small in watches (except in a Datejust for some reason) so I went with the 39. I'm coming to the conclusion that 38mm is perhaps the ideal size...but nobody does it.

I'm seriously considering a 36mm OP for my next piece. The 36mm and 39mm Oyster perpetual are the best looking Rolex out there at the moment.

Im saying this 2 months after getting an Explorer 39mm much like yourself.

  • Registered Users Posts: 612 ✭✭✭fulladapipes

My take on 36 vs 39 is it all depends on the size of the bezel. The OP bezel is not large so 36 looks OK (I tried one on but preferred the 39). But the large bezel on the Submariner tends to make the dial look small.

Ah man I kept looking at that watch, its lovely very classical face with lovely layout of the complications. I think the tilt on the date is a classy touch too. Well wear. I am jealous....
