Iran has always used proxies to attack Israel for about 40 years, Hamas, Hezbollah and on and on.

Israeli retaliation against the IRGC generals responsible for directing these groups by striking them in the embassy in Damascus has really put it up to the Ayatollahs.

So it appears tonight that Iran is coming out of the shadows and hitting Israel directly.

Biden heading back to the White House Immediately and Jordan closing its airspace to civilian aircraft tonight.

This could be quiet a significant event.

    Already starting.

Presumably they will launch lots of drones to coincide with the ballistic missiles, overwhelm the iron dome.

If it is just a couple hundred drones and Israel shoot them down at ease it will be very embarrassing for Iran. Though they might consider it as honour restored and leave it at that.

Could get very interesting over there. Israel maybe overplayed their hand in Gaza. World opinion is very firmly against them.

Iran may have overplayed its hand on Oct 7th.

They may have the all out war with Israel and the West that they always dreamed of but always wanted down the line.

It has the potential to be very interesting.

    As predicted.

If it's just a slow moving manageable wave of drones it could be Iran is just doing this for show instead of actual damage, we'll see.

    Oh yay. More **** war

They also wont be sending Putin too many more drones as they will need them themselves. Could change the Russia Ukraine situation as well.

Very possible but it may be that in a few hours they time ballistics to reach Israel as well.

The northern front will give indication, if Hezbollah step up significantly in the next few hours it will show the game plan.

There's no way it's only a single swarm of drones that they can prepare for hours out. That's likely the softener to get the air defence busy before it gets followed by something with a lot more punch.

Even if that is true Israel will have to carry out a direct attack on Iran in response so who knows where it will end.

I can't see that at all tbh. Iran having a wave of drones shot down is an utter embarrassment for them. Why would they agree to that?

It is possible but it would be an embarrassment. They could have hit Israel via proxies like all the other times before so why chose the risky direct approach.

We can't understand the Iranian regime, it is a country where a recent leader used go to the lake where the hidden Mahdi is hiding for countless centuries, and update him on Iranian affairs.

The symbolism. It's all a chess game. They have to be seen to retaliate for the embassy attack, but how far do they go with a hyped up Israel who's doctrine always involves hitting back (much) harder for any attack.

The type of attack Iran does now will send a clear message as to it's intentions. Just a wave of drones? Retaliation. Waves of drones followed by ballistic missiles + rockets from Lebanon? Escalation.

Of course, not downplaying anything, all of this is very serious stuff.

Watching on BBC now. Very much flashback to what I remember of Gulf War 1 and the missle war (Scuds and Patriot counter-fire) at that time.

Yikes some missiles launched too from Iran apparently

A wave of drones will be shot down and will not be viewed as a retaliation. This is only the beginning.

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,280 ✭✭✭✭Danzy

For Israel it will be the beginning. It is a direct launch against them by a State that will shortly have nukes and whose leadership are completely certain that there God is directing them.

  • Registered Users Posts: 503 ✭✭✭ToweringPerformance

Inevitable. Israel will respond now with an attack on Tehran. World is now on the edge of WW3.

reports of 150 drones from iran plus cyber attack on israel city power grid

Benjamin Netanyahu: 'Whoever harms us, we will harm them'

Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu has released the following statement on Saturday evening amid Iran’s launch of drones towards Israel:

In recent years, and especially in recent weeks, Israel has been preparing for a direct attack by Iran.

Our defensive systems are deployed; we are ready for any scenario, both defensively and offensively. The State of Israel is strong. The IDF is strong. The public is strong.

We appreciate the US standing alongside Israel, as well as the support of Britain, France and many other countries.

We have determined a clear principle: Whoever harms us, we will harm them. We will defend ourselves against any threat and will do so level-headedly and with determination.

Citizens of Israel, I know that you also are also level-headed. I call on you to follow the directives of IDF Home Front Command.

Together we will stand and with God’s help – together we will overcome all of our enemies.” (

I hope you are wrong about that and that this all just stays as a war in the Middle East.

this is all high farce. A couple of penny-ass drones taking 6 hours to get to Israel. It’s a nothingburger

US National Security Council: 'The United States will stand with the people of Israel'

In a statement released on Saturday, the US National Security Council spokesperson Adrienne Watson said:

Iran has begun an airborne attack against Israel. President Biden is being regularly updated on the situation by his national security team and will meet with them this afternoon at the White House.

His team is in constant communication with Israeli officials as well as other partners and allies. This attack is likely to unfold over a number of hours.

President Biden has been clear: our support for Israel’s security is ironclad. The United States will stand with the people of Israel and support their defense against these threats from Iran.

There isn't as much difference between a ballistic missile and a drone that is readily shot down as far as Israel are concerned.

Both are direct attacks and could lead to all out war.

Iran probably under pressure from their public to act after the consulate attack. I think it will be harmless optics more than anything else. We'll hear lots of tough talk in the meantime. The sooner Netanyahoo loses power, the better.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

  • Registered Users Posts: 23,481 ✭✭✭✭Kermit.de.frog

Unconfirmed third wave of drones launched.

  • Registered Users Posts: 25,409 ✭✭✭✭Timberrrrrrrr

    You say this

But when they're 30 minutes out and a shìt load of missiles head in from Lebanon/Gaza/West bank then you have the iron dome working overtime to stop those as well, Dunno what Israels iron dome capabilites are under a full scale attack and how many missiles they have for defence but this could get really nasty real quick.

  • Registered Users Posts: 503 ✭✭✭ToweringPerformance

They've fired cruise missiles. This isn't a farce. Israel has nuclear weapons and a madman in charge, Iran may very well have nuclear weapons and has a madman in charge.
