They connect it straight to the exchange and the FTTC can be used for the people in the towns to be able to upgrade them to FTTH.

Yeah reason I ask that is there is a FTTC at the end of my road - I'm not connected - it's about 700m away. I'm connected to the exchange directly. But I see the blue line seems to come from the cabinet past my house but it also links back to the exchange - so wondering will they connect me to the cabinet which is close or the exchange which is maybe 5km away.

It be the exchange can you not get FTTC since your close to it.

They told me they wouldn't connect me to it as I was already connected to the exchange. Hard to know how or when - cabinet is there a couple of years now and I'm still on dsl to the exchange at 3mb. Only a couple of houses connected to the cabinet. And now my road is one of the blue lines for FTTH? Seems the planning is ongoing alright - my question would be is there any planning?

I am in a similar situation. 2km from nearest cabinet and not connected to it. I am direct fed and 3km from the exchange so cant avail of evdsl either.

When they started work here on Friday they started from beside the cabinet which is on the edge of Dunshaughlin urban area. I presume this cabinet is fed by fibre back to the exchange. There has been no work so far between that cabinet and the exchange as all that was probably completed years ago. They have rolled about 1km of fibre so far from the cabinet heading my direction.

There is a junction about 500 meters from my home where the blue lines split into 2 directions so hopefully this will continue working up this way past my house!.

Yeah then it makes sense - to connect the houses closest to the cabinet to the cabinet. Running lines all the way back to the exchange seems a little crazy considering all the work they've done putting the cabinet in?

Are they bringing the fibre cable along poles where copper lines exist or are they putting it underground? Also does anyone know is it one fibre cable and then that is split to join up a house or does everyone have an individual fibre between cab and the house? Surely a cable each would mean a huge bundle of cable wouldn't it?

I would say so more than likely you'll get FTTH but open Eir won't really give you a straight answer which is annoying your left in limbo.

There putting the fibre with the existing copper network they do both poles and underground ducting I think they use two fibres for one house one as a spare.

If you open the link I posted it has a "check availability" button on the lhs.
I'd assume it's a checker for their extreme product i.e. FTTH.

The houses along the blue line..looks like 003 is going straight to FTTH...are you on that blue line? If not you will have to wait for the NBP...

Does the "Notify Me" service actually work and does it give people a projected date or only notify when it is actually live?

it seems no matter which checker you use they just refer to it as Eir Fibre which is kinda confusing.

Have you actually spoken to the guys working on this and asked them what the story is? It would at least give you something more than wishful speculation!

No you're wrong because - If I use the checker on the FTTC site I get:

Havent spoken to them but it is definitely fibre they are laying and the blue lines run past my home so it's all looking extremely positive. Didnt think I would see this till at least 2018 then we were put into the first phase in the announcement a month ago.

Well it might be worth asking them for certain. For all you know they could be running a leased line connection to some business way-the-hell-up-the-road from you and not doing anything for the ribbon development. :eek:

It's probably unlikely given the distance they have covered so far (if it was for a leased line, this would be a VERY expensive install for that business). Plus they'd have a load of fibre strands in that cable ... sitting there ... all dark ... begging to be lit up ... and connected to Gonzo's House ...

It doesn't say that for me it say:Eir Fibre is not available yet in your area however let us alert you when it available!Then on the Eir FTTC it say something totally different your home is not in an eir fibre area it use to say that on the extreme checker.

I dont have a huge amount of faith in these checkers generally. It told me before that it was available in my area but line isnt activated, then recently it went to not available and now its coming soon.
