Just before the fight I would expect doubts to creep in and Nate to end up as a slight favourite. Very similar to the Aldo odds I would imagine.

I hadn't considered this before but I was listening to mma houur from 2 weeks with Rashad Evans earlier. Evans says he predicted(& bet on) a Diaz upset. He said part of his reasoning was because McGregor didn't have a weight cut, therefore breaking his usual routine leading upto and including fight week. So maybe having a weight cut helps him concentrate and focus his mind into the fight.

Diaz is a light weight, he's not going to bulk up for one fight with Conor at WW. Just means neither fighter will have to cut significant weight. I don't get why so many posters think the fight will have a different outcome or Conor will have more power if the fight is at 155.

Conor fought so stupidly and recklessly that gassing 2 minutes into the second round he was going to lose that fight at whatever weightclass. Diaz is a Lightweight as much as Conor is a Featherweight. Diaz will 100% come in heavier if he knows in advance that they are fighting at WW, while also having the physical benefits of not stressing his body with a weightcut. He has spoken previously about potential fights to WW and stated how he planned to get bigger if he was fighting there again. There’s no reason aside from pride for Conor to take this at WW, I can’t think of one positive to doing so for him.

He's tall, a giant for the division in fact but hes very lean and doesn't have much muscle mass. He told Dana before getting the Conor fight that he was bulking up so he could get the GSP fight because he wanted to get paid. Dana asked him if he'd have trouble losing the weight considering that he'd been bulking and Nate just said he was lying about it to get the fight and that he was only 175. He'll didn't bulk up for his last fight at welterweight so why would be now? The winner is likely to get a shot at RDA a few months after so there is no way I see him changing his body composition. He has said multiple times recently that WW is Nicks division.

It’s not about changing his body composition massively. Fighting at 170 he can put on a slight bit more muscle, eat what he wants, and not put his body through shrinking to make the lower weightclass. I really don’t understand how posters can continuously make a big deal about Conor’s cut and then completely ignore it for Nate. We’ve seen the two of them in the ring together and the size difference was clear. Are you trying to say that they’re the same size or that cutting has no drawbacks for fighters?
RedemptionZ wrote: » Saying Diaz is a LW as much as Conor is a FW is implying Nate is a natural WW which is not true. Nate got absolutely bullied by Rory MacDonald when they fought and they're the same height I think, Nate may be taller. Height doesn't equate to weight class. He may be a bigger man than Conor but that doesn't mean he's not a LW. He won't be putting on a load of muscle because he's not a WW and it'll just hurt his cardio and he'll have to lose it after the fight too.
