One of keys to Cats establishing dominance over Cork in the noughties was Cody deploying more aggressive tactics against the Cusack/Seán O'Óg/Gardiner axis. Recipe for disaster to be turned over by them fkers on your own 40.

Dublin have been trying to vary it in recent games, most notably against Galway and it has been effective. Even yesterday, they won a fair bit of possession but shot taking was atrocious for the most part. Also Maguire's puckouts were pretty ropey.

It can be effective if mixed and keep other teams on their toes. Dublin were too predictable under Daly, just as Waterford are arguably too predictable now. Sweepers and damage limitation are worthless in high Summer against the big guns.

Credit to GC and the team, I reckon they have surpassed expectations, overcome a few body blows in terms of retirements etc, and are smart enough to adopt.

Am optimistic.

I'm taking a run up on Saturday. Did you not used to be able to manually select your seat off a map for CP on the online sites, or have I imagined that?

I could well be talking broken biscuits now that I think about it.

Depends what website you use.

Tickets.ie don't let you pick your seat, or your section. You select Lr Hogan or Lr Cusack and it assigns you your section & your seat. You can't pick it yourself. There is no handling fee.

Ticket Bastard does let you pick your section and seat from a little interactive map thingy. There is a 2 euro handling fee, per ticket.

If you go to the ticket office, you can select your own section & seat. There is no handling fee charged there.

There was only 17,000 or so at the Cork game. Can't really see this one drawing much more. The Six Nations is over & Donegal aren't woeful, so maybe it will. Either way, unless you want to sit on Aogan O'Fearghail's knee in the Ard Comhairle, you'll have no trouble getting a decent seat, even if you move from the one on your ticket.

It can be effective against certain teams alright but kilkenny and tipp in the summer? Short puck outs and short passing will be like mothers milk to them

Dublin look to be on course to top Division 1 and go on to win the league this season. But I wouldn't rule out Roscommon putting an end to their unbeaten run. The Dubs have to go to Hyde Park and play a team on an incredible run of form and winning momentum.
I also wouldn't rule out Kerry, They got off to a slow start in this league but are finishing strong, They are always dangerous

The KK half back line is far too good to persist with the short puck outs. Still, it's best to be taught that lesson now, when it doesn't really "matter" as such...then to find it out the hard way in the summer.

Eh, you do realize that Dublin are on an even better run of form and have even better winning momentum, don't you? Dublin are unbeaten in the league. Roscommon are not.

Thats kind of my original point, I'm hoping cunningham has something a bit more savvy up his sleeve for the cats and was only using the short game as a placeholder last week

Yes Roscommon have home advantage but they haven't played the best team in the country yet, & we're well able for Kerry too......

Dublin will be favourites going into the game, No doubt. If the game was in Croke Park I would say Dublin win. But down in Roscommon could be a different story. Looking forward to a cracking game between the 2 form sides

Well able for Kerry? Seriously? Kerry were only a couple of weeks back from their team holiday & were missing most of the starters from last years AI final. My granny and her mates at the old folks home, could probably beat Kerry in early February. Get back to me about being "well able for Kerry", when you have beaten them in August or September !

I think Dublin have a lot to play for with a record to match of 4 in a row. I'd imagine they'll be up for it but maybe not against Roscommon round 1. Have a feeling it might be a bit like that Longford game earlier in the year.
Unless a number of our players are getting stuck in to hold or win a starting spot I could see roscommon winning against Dublin. Donegal will be another kettle of fish, I thought that there was a bit of an issue between the Dubs and Donegal until I saw the Donegal Kerry game.!!

Jesus, I thought so too. But the Melee in Tralee put any of our recent history with Donegal, in the ha'penny place. :eek:

What's the story with McGee? Will his suspension kick in for this game? I think he was able to play against the Rossies because he appealed it. Murphy's hammer looked to be in a bad way the last day out. Wonder how it will affect him on Saturday, if at all.

I'm not remotely worried about Sunday week. I think Jim Gavin will send out a fairly experimental line out. He's done it in the past, when we went into the last round guaranteed a spot in the semi finals. So I'm not all that bothered about the result, other than how certain individuals perform. I'll have forgotten about the score, 5 minutes after the final whistle. Bigger fish to fry and all that.

Rossies big game is Sunday. No doubt they would love to beat Dubs, and might still have to, but the Mayo game is potential prequel to the Connacht championship decider.

The Mayo game is big on local level, As you say, a potential prequel to the Connacht decider. Roscommon would sure love to end their 5 year dominance.

But the Dublin game is no doubt the big one. You measure yourself on the Champions. If Roscommon are going to be a real championship contender, They have to be able to beat the best. And right now that's Dublin.

I think far too much store is being set by it. September is still 6 months away. Mayo have been there or thereabouts, every year this decade. The Rossies are usually off on their summer holliers by the second week in July. They may be the poster boys for adventurous Spring football right now. But I'll only consider them serious contenders, when they are back here in August and September, trying to wrangle info out of us, on parking spots next to Croker, that are handy for a quick get away.
