Diaz said he got food poisoning in mexico few days (didn't eat for 3 days after it apparently) before the call which contributed to him keeping his weight down.

If you take an example from a completely different sport - when Brian O'Driscoll lost his speed and line-break ability and changed his style of play completely to a defensive and game-breaking passer.

Doing something like that is greatness.

Take a leaf out of GSP's book, he didn't have any great schooling in wrestling. He trained at it to the point where it was one of his greatest assets, and was able to dominate fighters like Hughes and Koscheck.

GSP is also built his success on sticking to a gameplan, something that McGregor seems to have gotten away from of late.

Size is always a factor. It was a factor that RDA overcame, a factor in McGregors wins and a factor in this loss.

I don't think it's a question of as good as RDA, McGregor had a poor plan and didn't adjust it.

People seem to be overlooking that Conor won the first round fairly clearly.

I think this loss could be a good thing for McGreggor in the long run. He'll have learned some valuable lessons from the fight without losing the belt over them.

Fair play to him for having a go at it though, hopefully he can take what he learned in this fight about efficient use of energy and become a better more rounded fighter.

You obviously know very little about Ali. In his time he never pulled any punches when it came to insulting his opponents. As far as Ali was concerned there was nothing sacred, their background, families, children, handicapped relatives.

More than once he used racial terms to describe other black fighters who had darker skin tones than he did, as well as calling some black fighters ''Uncle Toms''.

As he said himself he used too much energy loading up on shots, but he also had trouble getting past Diaz's reach. He clearly didn't respect Diaz's boxing ability either.

At least from now on he'll be more patient, he will also realise that at the higher weights, bigger men can absorb his punches better than the men at featherweight.

No, the coach who said he could make of made 155.

He wasn't much heavier then 170 in the ring, it would make no sense to cut extra weight if he was.

What about his reverse of Diaz takedown attempt at the end of round 1? Was that not decent (not an MMA expert)
Dont think you can read too much into the submission it was a last ditch attemp by a semi concussed man to buy some time to get to the end of the round, he was out on his feet

Yup, he did extremely well in the clinch in the first, he was pushed up against the cage and he managed to reverse it and put Nate against the cage.

He was gassed early in the second, even by the end of the first he looked very pale going to the corner and that was what set alarm bells for me.

The way Nate got his neck was beautiful, he punched his head to raise it so he could slip his arm under and lock it in. The very same thing happened with Werdum vs. Cain, Cain was gassed and shot a takedown, when he didn't get it Werdum subbed him. It all happened in less then 10 seconds and you couldn't say Cain's grappling is bad.

Very honest interview. Kavanagh says he prefers a rematch with Aldo because the first fight was kind of an anti-climax. He said it's ultimately up to Conor though.

McGregor could fight Nate 10 times at any weight and with different tactics and he'll lose every single time. Nate is a machine who will always go the distance, hardy as fcuk. For all McGregors talk, he simple isn't, infact he's extremely soft if you rattle him. We seen it with Mendes too. If he doesn't take you out quickly, and he never will with Nate, he'll lose 9 out of 10 times as the other fighter will always start to come into it. And Diaz will always get into the fight at some point. He'll never beat Nate at any weight

That was Diaz doing what he wanted to, pulling guard and then trying to invert, not Conor reversing.

Diaz got some top boxing skills from training with Richard Perez, he was sparring with all kinds of fighters and even sparred with Andre Ward (serious high level boxing right there).
If you look at that coupled with the fact that Diaz can take heavy punches and has a pretty good ground game it was always gonna be tough for Conor.

Well done to those who called Diaz by sub (not those in the post fight poll that is :P)

Diaz camp originally said they could make 155

UFC took a few days before coming back saying they’d do it at 155

Diaz camp said they said he couldn’t make 155

UFC came back saying 160

Diaz camp now said he couldn’t make 160

UFC went to McGregor with 165

McGregor said to do 170

Fighters regularly come in slightly underweight when they’re doing smaller cuts than they are used to. Cutting down from around 180 would be nothing to him compared to trying to make 155, he could easily end up taking too much off.

No.

There's no medical suspension for being choked because there's no medical repercussions to it.

He could be concussed though, the medical suspension lists will be interesting, he took some serious damage.

Conor will be defn more suited to a 155 weight class.
If you compare his 145 weigh in vs his weigh in at 168 the other night. he looks horrible at 145.
