no tax or NCT i'd put it on donedeal for €500 alright.

probably double that if it has 6+ months NCT.

Didn't think this warranted a thread of it's own but would love to know any ones opinion (or advice on this).

I'm about to buy a car 2nd hand, have to get loan organised etc etc blah blah blah but here's the thing I currently am driving a Citreon Xzara Picasso 2004 petrol 1.6. She's in great knick apart from the following:

Power steering unit leaking; I've had a new/reconditioned rack installed, still leaking, then installed new high pressure hose to unit, it burst and leaked, then had citreon themselves install a new high pressure hose and it too is now leaking,. They don't know what's wrong with it. Anyway I'm sick of it and am getting a new car and I wonder if I could sell the Citreon for parts. Rear tail light cracked and casing broken a bit, otherwise everything else is working fine. Mechanic put the electrics through the machine and they came up perfect. So what advice would you give me re: scrapping. I'd love to get about €500 for it but I really haven't a clue. Would I be better advertising on Adverts.ie or approaching a garage or just using it as a trade in when buying my next car (used car, not new). Any advice would be appreciated.

I mean it should be possible for the capable young-fella-about-himself to get the test using only an instructor's car. It certainly is bloody awkward to operate your own vehicle on a learner permit these days, but so it goes.

And about these failures - look again. Try to analyse the failure types and tell us about them. I'd nearly bet a day's pay there's some sort of pattern(s) there.

Completely random in any test, like stick the sheet to a wall and throw darts at it and tick any box they hit. When you say should be doable, does that mean most people get a car on a provisional license and drive that for a few years first? This is nearly financially impossible nowadays though, plus the guards are cracking down I heard.

I really don't think it makes a difference what car you use. All you can do is keep trying.

Thats how i got my full, 10 lessons, 1 pretest on the day, then i passed first time. never properly drove a car before that. parking the aul lads car or driving it around the industrial estate for a little extra practice doesnt count
