A lot of the internet seems to be off for Christmas already, so I find I'm not finding many interesting things to read.

And over Christmas I'll have more time to kill, so I'd very much appreciate if you have any recommendations for websites that you can sink some time into.

A similar thread some time ago led me to Listverse, some fascinating hours can be spent there and it's not too taxing on the old broadband if you're depending on mobile. Cracked is too video oriented I find.

Been with that forum for a long time so luckily avoided the fee when it was introduced, one of my favourite places to go and it's not because of it's graphic content.

If you were to ignore that section to it, it has other sub-forums that are actually choc-ful of interesting subjects from funny and bizarre medical stories to really fascinating vintage stuff you don't hear of elsewhere. A lot of the regulars there work in the medical profession too so they tend to come out with highly interesting posts.

A spot I check into every now and again is EnglishRussia.com

It focuses on the bizarre side of all things Russian, including a lot of stuff on abandoned Soviet-era buildings and towns / cities or just plain weird people that inhabit that land.

Haven't been there in a while and it seems they changed the layout for the worse, 2 pics per page is bullshít. They never used to do that (ad revenue I guess) but a lot of the articles are very interesting nonetheless.
