Though I think this is the first official announcement from the Shannon Group that the GE building extension is part of their redevelopment programme in the Shannon Free Zone.

I remember flagging the planning application at the end of May but don’t recall seeing anything in the media about it until this week.

They are certainly not wasting time.

Cargo jet in Shannon emergency landing (Clare Herald)

A transatlantic cargo flight has made an emergency landing at Shannon Airport this afternoon.

United Parcel Service (UPS) flight UPS-213 was travelling from Louisville, Kentucky in the United States to Cologne in Germany at the time.

The McDonnell Douglas MD-11 Freighter, with a crew of six on board, was about an hour west of Shannon when the pilot declared an emergency.

The flight crew raised the alarm at around 3.30pm reporting a problem with of the jet’s three engines which that they had to shut down. It’s understood that problem arose in the No 3 engine.

UTC announces 20 new jobs in Shannon (Clare Herald)

United Technologies Corp. (UTC) has announced the addition of 20 new jobs at a maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) centre in Shannon for its UTC Aerospace Systems business as part of a €6m investment.

Shannon Aircraft Motor Works, a unit of UTC Aerospace Systems, will service the next generation of Smart Probe Air Data Information Management Systems and sensors for the commercial aircraft market in Europe.

The highly sophisticated computers and sensors provide flight critical information to the pilot and auto-pilot systems on speed, altitude, temperature, pitch and angle, etc., to ensure maximum flight safety. This project has been supported by the Department of Jobs through IDA Ireland.

Shannon Aircraft Motor Works currently employs 80 people and occupies a 28,000-square-foot facility servicing aircraft electrical power systems for the global market.

I thought that the Shannon Aircraft Motor Works was renamed to Hamilton Sundstrand Shannon when they took it over from the Indian business man Mr. Paramjit Neote.

Same as last year, but a bigger plane. Widebody too.

Aer Lingus plane with more than 100 people on board makes emergency landing in New York (RTE)

Shortly after Flight EI-110 took off from JFK airport a technical fault was discovered with the aircraft, which returned to JFK and made a safe emergency landing.

Aer Lingus said that all 110 passengers disembarked safely and the company said they would be accommodated on the next available flights.

Flight EI-110 had been due to land at Shannon Airport at 6am.

Interesting to see the load factor for a Monday evening flight from New York as it would seem to be low?

Delta Air Lines’ JFK service will next summer operate the larger Boeing 767-300 aircraft on the service, resulting in a 25% increase in capacity, or 17,000 additional seats.

When I saw 104 passengers I was really surprised, 60% is poor for this time of year. 75% would be more normal, this figures seem more like Jan/Feb time.

Overall not a bad June, Poitiers was disappointing, but that's not exactly a surprise. Munich and Paris were also lower than expected, but I suppose that explains the capacity decreases next year. Birmingham had a very good start!

All for sale now, Lanzarote is now June/July/August at 2pw

Alot into Shannon today, A 747 and 757(I think) national cargo, OMNI 767, OMNI 777, Ryanair diversion from Knock, Transaero in from Manchester, and they are the only ones I've spotted.
