UTC announces 20 new jobs in Shannon (Clare Herald) United Technologies Corp. (UTC) has announced the addition of 20 new jobs at a maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) centre in Shannon for its UTC Aerospace Systems business as part of a €6m investment.Shannon Aircraft Motor Works, a unit of UTC Aerospace Systems, will service the next generation of Smart Probe Air Data Information Management Systems and sensors for the commercial aircraft market in Europe. The highly sophisticated computers and sensors provide flight critical information to the pilot and auto-pilot systems on speed, altitude, temperature, pitch and angle, etc., to ensure maximum flight safety. This project has been supported by the Department of Jobs through IDA Ireland. Shannon Aircraft Motor Works currently employs 80 people and occupies a 28,000-square-foot facility servicing aircraft electrical power systems for the global market.

Aer Lingus plane with more than 100 people on board makes emergency landing in New York (RTE) Shortly after Flight EI-110 took off from JFK airport a technical fault was discovered with the aircraft, which returned to JFK and made a safe emergency landing. Aer Lingus said that all 110 passengers disembarked safely and the company said they would be accommodated on the next available flights. Flight EI-110 had been due to land at Shannon Airport at 6am.
