Pairing Luke Marshall with Cave in the centre and Payne at fullback could be really good for the wolfhounds backline. They should know each other inside out. Then Gilroy could be on one wing.

With the objective of sharing around the match time, and to see SOB and Murphy play in two positions each, these would be my preferred selections:

Against Wales:
6. POM, 7. Henry, 8. Heaslip, 20. Murphy.
If no injuries, then aim to bring on Murphy for POM around 50 mins.

Against England:
6. POM, 7. SOB, 8. Heaslip, 20. Murphy.
If no injuries, then aim to bring on Murphy for Heaslip around 50 mins.

Henry played 8 for Ulster for years but I doubt we'll see him there.

Actually, all of our backrow options have a decent amount of experience at 8, don't they? Heaslip is pretty much the only "specialist" backrower travelling.

Wouldnt be surprised to see henderson get a run in the back row at some stage

Yes, possibly, but I don't see Tuohy featuring again, leaving 4 2nd Rows for 2 more matches, so more than likely Henderson will be needed to play in the 2nd Row IMO.

Possibly in the Scotland game, but he copped a yellow about 1 minute after he got on the field and then there was less than 10 minutes left when he got back on so I'm not sure I'd even count that.

Ourselves and Wales were dreadful and NZ were streets ahead. I think we gave NZ a pretty good game for about 30 minutes IIRC...

Yes tough pools but neither of those are equivalents of Pool A this year. 3 of top 6 in the world.

Just wondering....who comes in for henshaw if he's injured?

Madigan is actually the only other player in the (expected) squad who's played much at 12 this season but I couldn't see joe putting him in there. I actually don't mind him as a 12 for Leinster but against the likes of France I'd be very worried about his ability to make tackles before the gain line.
I think the most likely outcome would be Payne to 12 and earls at 13. I'd be happy enough with this. Payne has all the skills to play 12 and we all know what earls is capable of.
My preferred option would be fitz to 13 and Payne to 12 but it's unlikely. These two would be beasts in defence and would still offer a lot with ball in hand

Yeah I'd imagine we'd see Earls at 13, I think he's the next best option there.

Then again it's not like we've seen a tonne of Payne at 12. Earls has actually started at 12 for Ireland before as has Fitzgerald, but I'd still think Payne sliding in is most likely. I'd hope it's not Madigan.

If Henshaw ships a bad injury that rules him out entirely I'd imagine they call in Cave and he'd play 12.

Normally I'd agree but Kinsella doesn't seem the type just pull a team out of thin air and post it as fact. Plus it's quite a realistic team.
