There are up to 7 dairy threads going at one time. What's your opinion on having a "one stop" dairy thread. I, in no way want to exclude anyone else esoecially Bob Charles we need him to keep us real and you never know we may even convert him! Mods you may have another opinion.

I know what you mean but they're your best genetics. Best grass and a kilo of meal per day for the year would b my advice. You'll get it back 10 times over when their milking

cows going in tonight, made fair ****e last night:mad: just ordered meal to go in feeder, have to go and collect it, thank god we have silage left over . Glad we didnt start powerwashing sheds after cows went out. Lad did farm walk this morning, some covers up on 1600 these are not grazeable, reseeds are brilliant, grazed out 10 days ago and back up to 900.

some heat here bliss. Won't be lasting for long though.
15 days of ai don't 70% served. Won't get 100 % but will get very close to 90

got similar advice a few years back from a vet and when problem ddn't clear was advised to get dung sampled , had to burn bedding and treat floor area with an ammonia compound (i think) was some form of coccsiiosis i think , dosed all for following 3 years to clear,
i took sample to rival veterinary practice to test much to annoyance of my regular vet, only cost a few quid and saved lots of grief.
also had stomach problem that was solved by giving about half pint of milk through teat to each calf first ,to get stomach working for 3-4 days, was bucket feeding milk at time and wouldn't clear even when weaned.

Ah Jeeze, don't despair. Wet and windy may and all that. Have 40 acres to wrap ASAP. Will make a call midweek

It's supposed to dry out Monday week. At least next week we might have some heat to go with the rain....

I had a crop guy looking at barley today and he made the comment that alot of crops are slow taking off this year despite on the face of it eeasonable conditions

Was out walking it today terrible conditions. Rabbits making **** of the haedlands on one of the field. Got one with the shotgun today. May try again tomo

Ain't panicking yet but the frequency and volume of rain that has fell is having an effect on ground conditions and grass management .no point cutting grass ,and baking it with little or no wilt to have flat bales of pure shire that won't preserve.like your land mine is pretty dry and drys out fairly quick but 2012 was last time I remember things been like they are now and we all remember how that turned out.this mornings weather shows heat and more rain today and early next week followed by a return to cold and more wet weather later......

Yep sure do and quality stuff at that but neither as good as grass at this stage.will hit solids and production as well as having an effect on breeding season

True. Frustrating enough here this yr with breeding managed to pick up 10 cows over last week who were barely showing a heat. None bulling this morning

Keep thinking 2014 not 2012. That said, could really do with some heat now. 11 acres of silage ground gone into a the bulk tank. Those 11 acres would have left me very comfortable with silage, now I'll be a bit tighter, but it's early days yet. They've bought me a bit of time. Ground is still holding up, cows still bulling strong and still knocking out the litres but things would want to improve soon. At least now we can feed on for this weather and not be worrying about SL at the end of the year. Keep thinking positive.

Im going with the spinner tomorrow on drier fields, ground conditions are holding barely with wet fields avoided, yield down to 25l pr 3.41 fat 3.83

Same here, going to go out with 27units on the whole place tomorrow. Just a top up. Place got 40 units 10 days ago, but who knows where that is now.
