After some sage advise from Krusty, I've decided to dip my toe into the training log pool.

My 12 month objective is to crack a sub 3, but my immediate objective is to run a 3.05 -3.07 in Seville in February.

I've done a few marathons and did Valencia a couple of weeks ago as a training run (fantastic event by the way), and I've started a 12 week McMillan running program last Monday.

I'll try to post here as frequently as possible and would appreciate any feedback proffered.

3 sessions completed so far;

1. 30 min warm up followed by, 22, 30 second strides with 1 min recovery run at between 5k and 1 mile race pace. 15 min cool down jog

2. 70 mins easy run

3. 50 min easy run

Yesterday: the plan called for the 4 mile nursing home special. I had to go into work for a couple of hours and then I got a long overdue massage. It was very painful and I was close to auld man tears on occasion! I'd say I left teeth marks in her treatment table. She couldn't get all the knots and stiffness out and I've another session on the torturers rack tomorrow. Felt very battered all day after it so I decided to can the recovery run, and recover on the couch instead.

Today: the plan called for 8 miles easy. I'm becoming a DDuanington acolyte and I put on some choons to get me motivated out the door

Florence + the machine, "Dog days are over".

Hopefully it's prophetic and I start hitting some form!

Got this done around lunch time over a nice rolling local route. The first two miles were slow and I was getting twitches and small spasms from the muscles but gradually warmed up. It was the best I've felt out running in a fair while and I finished it strong.

8 miles @ 7.49

I decided to head out again this evening and get in yesterday's missed nursing home special. The wind was picking up and made it quite chilly. Didn't bother me as I was well wrapped up and just shuffled along.

3.8 miles very slow

Today the plan called for 2 mile wu/cd, followed by 16 x 1 minute at 5k pace off 1 minute jog recovery. It also called for a short easy run later in the day.

I had a massage booked for early in the morning to try and get rid of the last of the tightness. Another pain fest session and she told me my glutes were the problem. She said she hadn't seen such a tight arse in a long time, funnily enough my missus has been saying the exact same thing to me for ages, maybe I should have paid more attention to her

Spent a short while in work and then headed up to Dangan and the UCG track. After a 2.5 mile warm up I hit the session, there was a fair bit of wind blowing on the track and I couldn't set the Garmin up properly to check the pace on each rep. My 5k pace has currently been set at 6.00/6.10 but after the first rep I couldn't see the pace I was going at so just did it comfortably hard. I was recovering quickly on the jog recovery until about the 10th rep and after that it became gradually harder. Finished reasonably strong and it was a nice session to have in the bag before the year draws to a close and especially given that I haven't been setting training alight lately. Finished up with 1.6 mile cool down

Not sure if I'll get the 4 miles easy in tonight but if I don't I'll try and get it in later in the week.

Plan today called for the nursing home special. I'm in Dublin for a couple of days with the clan, staying near Blanchardstown so I never got to jog the Resolution Run in Galway. Weather conditions were appalling for anyone racing today.

I didn't have my taser or mace with me so instead of doing the 4 miles around the local area I hit the hotel gym. The gym was crap, two auld treadmills, one out of order and the other a museum piece that was falling apart! I also forgot my runners and had to use an old pair without orthotics. Got 6.5k done very slow.

Today the plan called for 8 miles easy. Was gonna hook up with Ecoli for this but events conspired against me. Spent the morning traipsing around different shops and all I had to show for it was a high viz Nike tee shirt off the bargain rail.

The poor Bogger children are bewildered /bemused by the Big Schmoke! Unbelievable traffic, air pollution, crowds, shopping centres that are bigger than their village and the accent, my god the accent. We were in the Plex getting ready to play the Qusar and a really nice young girl was giving the pre game briefing. I could see the confused look on the kids faces and the middle lad leaned into me and said "Dad, what's she saying", I had to translate and afterwards explain to him that "yiz" wasn't a sixties pop band, a brand of aftershave or even a Hebrew word and that "bud" wasn't part of a flower but was rather a term of greeting/affection/familiarity

The missus decided to take the kids to the cinema around 4.30 and that if I was going to run at all today, I had till the movie was over to get it done, as she was going on the lash this evening! Quick dash back to the hotel to get into the gear and started with a couple of laps around Blanchardstown (the traffic was brutally bad) up passed the Acquatic centre took a right at the top of the road at the roundabout for another mile and a bit and then back.

8 miles @ 8.22

I've to do 10 miles steady tomorrow and that should be interesting!

Today the plan called for 10 miles steady. My current steady pace is 7.20-7.35. I wasn't looking forward to this at all and even less so as the day was getting away from me. The planned early retreat from the big schmoke was canned as the two eldest wanted to do their Torvil & Dean impressions on the Blanchardstown ice rink. I decided that it would be safer for me and the ice skating population at large if I sat the session out! Got a work call on the way back to Galway and once I had dropped the clan back to our Bogger sanctuary, I had to head back into Galway for a meeting. Was pissed off as I didn't get out running till 7.45 and more importantly, I was going to miss the darts on the telly!

It was a beautiful evening out there when I finally got out, close to freezing with very little wind, perfect for running. Settled into it nicely enough and the niggles and stiffness that have been bothering me lately weren't as pronounced tonight. Parked at the Salthill hotel, went up the prom, across knocknacarra (where I could smell the stench of stale booze about 100 metres before I reached the bottle bank!), headed over the quincentennial bridge and back onto the prom. Happy enough with the way the run panned out and it's the first time in ages that I've felt a glimmer of fitness and strength coming back. Treated myself to a curry cheese chips and burger afterwards and I made sure I enjoyed it as I'm gonna take TRRtT's subtle dietary advice and " put down the burgers fat boy"

Haha Meno,

I've fond memories of watching the Viking, especially when he won the BDO World Champs.

Didn't he lose a rake of weight soon after that game and thereafter couldn't throw a dart for ****e

Yes, proof positive it's a fat man's game.

Another classic was Mike Gregory after he narrowly lost the last set to Phil Taylor for the world champ. They had only recently brought in a ban against drinking on stage.
When asked what had went wrong (he had been 4 sets up) Gregory replied 'I knew I should have had that 8th pint before the game'

Not sure about a darts player Murph, but I think the snooker player Bill Werbinek (spelling?) tried exactly that. He was a very big lad! Don't think the Revenue allowed it though

Bill used to drink 15 pints of lager during an average snooker match. Despite his drinking prowess I am not sure he would have made a good beer-miler

Just shows how bad the standard is nowadays in the BDO.
Despite that bloke being so bad, it still took 'Wolfie' (BDO poster boy) 26 darts to win the leg.
Imagine how badly he'd be humiliated in the PDC!

His opponent wasn't much better tbh and he is multiple BDO world champion!!

Further to Big Bill, Ironic that he ventually got banned from Snooker because a drug he was taking to curb his alcohol consumption (due to the new no drinking on stage rule) was on the banned list
