So this woman and her kids seem to have been evicted for breaking the rules by speaking to a journalist about her plight in emergency accommodation.

Then she goes to spain for a holiday (gift from her parents) and on her return she was evicted.
Got a feeling this story will run and run. Seems to me that this she was not in need of emergency accommodation if she was off to spain for a holiday.

Did you not read my post that said I've no sympathy for this woman? I'm talking about genuine cases that people assume are a result of some sort of "ah sure the tax payers will look after me" attitude when in actual fact there are legitimate reasons people end up in this position. Its women like the one in the article that give those cases a bad name.

Edel camped at Sunnybank last night. She is still there. This family doesn't need the abuse they are getting. The papers don't print everything they are told. Just snippets of the "catchy" things. Yes she did go on holiday, a holiday booked as late as last year. She didn't bring much money as she couldn't afford it.
For anyone saying move in parents, its never as easy as that. For those saying money for deposit. Then what? She gets deposit and cant keep up rent! If there was no holiday she would still be out! Out because she spoke up. On behalf of the 25 families in that hotel. There were 2 rooms vacant in that hotel last night.
Edel is in college, studying culinary. She is trying to better herself for her and her kids.
People just don't get the new homeless thing. Working families are homeless too. Rents are high.
This is a genuine story. She has not lied. She has been very honest! Her kids have no where to play, so I'm glad she got away for a while.
There was a verbal agreement made with the hotel and Dublin city council that she would go back to the hotel when she returned. The report went out before she left. It is very spiteful of the owner to have done this. Yes the father is on the scene for the kids. This family have tried everything to get a place and are just finding it so hard. It is practically impossible to get somewhere. And those who say move elsewhere. They have school, creche and college. I personally understand what its like to disrupt a childs education through homelessness and its not worth it.
It doesn't matter what anyone says to half the people on here, you will just pick at everything.
At the end of the day, they are homeless!

when in emergency accommodation if you disappear for several day then you loose your accommodation,
It's allocated to another family who obviously needed it more

She has parents willing to send her on holidays. Money could be better spent by finding accommodation for their daughter/grandchildren. Or they could stay with the parents.

The reason she is homeless in the first place is because, over a year ago, she was living somewhere with rent of €1,000 a year.

There are perfectly good houses and apartments being rented in various parts of the country for half that amount. (Here are the current results of a search on Daft for properties for rent in Ireland with three bedrooms or more which cost €500 or less per month, and which accept rent allowance. 463 properties.)

As for having to move creche, school and college - yes, that would be disruptive for a family with young children, but surely becoming homeless and living in a hotel for over a year is a hell of a lot more disruptive and damaging to the children? I think most parents in that position would sacrifice a lot - even if it meant moving away from family and friends - if it would mean being able to continue to provide a roof over their children's heads.

No she wasn't! She had agreed they could use the room while she wasn't there. There were 2 vacant rooms in the hotel last night.

She had no say in the matter she's using the sympathy card plain and simple .

Emergency accommodation doesn’t work like that there are no negotiations on room usage .

If you choose to leave accommodation for several consecutive days then your out

The hotel is under no obligation to give her another room .

Probably sit down with the children's father to work out a solution.

(That's what I would do).

That's all fine when your actually working but when your sitting on benefits with your hand out .You don't have to worry about commuting to work now do you ( didn't think that far )
When your creche fees are been paid .

i feel for the genuine cases of people who are i trouble because of high rents and loss of jobs but she is nt one of them,

another case of the over inflated sense of entitlment that some many people have in the country,

if you want something like a house and car and holiday then work for it like most people do

whatever the ins and out of this story, this mother and children were thrown out of their home over a yesr ago due to rents rising at an alarming rate and they were placed in a b&b hotel.Imagine a whole year living in a situation like that!

The government were warned that they was a tusami of homelessnesd coming down the line and what are they doing about it? Absoloutely nothing, the situation is just going to get worse and worse.

So she is homeless for 13 months yet had a baby in July. So she got pregnant while she was homeless ?? FFS. Maybe I am been too harsh but could she not have used protection to prevent her having another child until she was in a more stable environment?

Plenty of working poor out there who would love to have a holiday but simply cant afford it. The money spent on that holiday could have been spread out over the next year or so to make up the difference between what she was paying in rent before the rent was put up to a grand a month.

There is a considerable lack of new social housing builds alright.
However there is a massive deficy in all infrastructure expenditures.

Hopefully it will ease when the government debt crisis abates.
