Big Nelly wrote: » At most the T-R42 cost me about 50 euro in Jan, it came with a little remote but I never used it, I just use a wireless mouse but I use the same with the Minix. I ran it for the first 5 months on standard firmware and it ran grand. Had some issues with HD films if the stream was weak but that was it..... I then upgraded the firmware to Wasser kit kat 4.4. This also had the preloaded XBMC for the RK3188 processor, this seemed to resolve any issues I had with HD quality. It was perfect but as mentioned I rather playing aound with something so I got the Minix and ended up selling on the T-R42 to a mate who replaced an apple TV with it and says it is perfect.... Great little box for the cash to be honest

dahat wrote: » This box is a lot cheaper than any of the others. Did you have to load the box yourself? For the price I imagine you did. This isn't a big problem but still a noob as regards XBMC.

Check on freektabs to see if the model has been bought by others. From what I can tell the M8 square box and NEO-X8 have Bluetooth and dual 2.4/5 ghz wifi. The M8 ships with only 8GB storage, the NEO-X8 come with 8GB but the NEO-X8H come with 16GB. For me this is not a big deal. From what I can tell the M8 square box ships with the Amlogic S802 only, I can't find a variant with the Amlogic S802B or Amlogic S802H chips. The NEO X8 ships with Amlogic S802, the NEO X8-H ships with Amlogic S802H. Again from what I can make out the Amlogic S802B chip can hardware decodes dolby digital, the Amlogic S802H chip can hardware decodes dolby digital and DTS. The Amlogic S802 chip can't hardware decode dolby digital or DTS and decoding has to be done through software like XBMC. For me this is not a big deal as I'd be using XBMC which software decodes. The M8 square box and NEO-X8 have 2GB ram. In the end I went with none of the above and went for what looks to be a Tronsmart Vega S89 Elite also known as the Beelink S82. It's a round box that comes with the Amlogic S802 chip, 8GB storage, 2GB Ram, Bluetooth and 2.4 ghz wifi. It doesn't have dual 2.4/5 ghz wifi but that is not a big deal to me, I'll be going wired and never had problem with 2.4ghz wifi. There are plenty of custom roms and it's well supported over on freektabs . I went for this because there are no reported clones on the market, the round pcb board is unique. There is a 16GB Tronsmart Vega S89-H model which has the exact same features of the NEO X8-H but costs less. Also there are Linux roms for M8 square and the round Tronsmart Vega S89/Beelink S82 I'm awaiting delivery of this from the UK, total cost including parcel motel 74 euro.
