They won't revert me back to my original payment I was getting in January they are cutting it by 50% I have lodged an appeal so let's see what happens. All I want to do is change from tus to job bridge.

Treehorn2077 wrote: » From what I've seen TUS doesn't sound suitable for much of what I seek to do in future, of course I may be wrong, I'll have to wait and see. I would have thought however goven the Governments drive to upskill people into the IT sector this would be encouraged, but alas we all know the saying about common sense. I'll be raising the issue with TUS when I see them, as for the social welfare I'm blue in the face explaining it to them. They are so out of touch with the needs of unemployed people it's staggering. I've looked on the FAS/Solas website, and aside from it being a huge cluster**** of a website (which is a shambles for a Government run website) and haven't seen much of interest regarding IT. Which given what I mentioned above about the Government's drive to get people into IT is just idiotic. If you want people to upskill in IT, then run IT courses. I would be very reluctant to go about entering an internship with a view to upskilling, as someone who would be going into a firm without the knowledge I hope to gain, I would inevitably end up in a "making the tea suitation" and learn nothing.

If that is the career you want, you will need to do your research and present your Case Officer with a fait accompli. Have a look at courses, and maybe visit the geeky side of Boards for advice on which course is best.

I thought you cannot do Tus for a minimum of three years after doing one last? I keep trying to ring Social Welfare office but they are not answering.
dodzy wrote: » Yep, it's 3 years. Unfortunately, the mechanism the Department uses for generating lists is sub-standard. Many organisations constantly receive duplicate applicants, ineligible applicants etc; Best advice would be to send the letter back, ticking the "Not willing to participate", with supporting comment that you completed a Tús programme (insert date)

I still can't get any work because I don't have enough practical experience. So I'm doing an online Java Professional course and nearly finished it and now I'm being forced to put myself forward for An Tus. I don't want to do An Tus because it would be a waste of time for me and would be of zero relevance to what I want to do ie. working as a web developer or programmer and I've explained that to them before tons of times but Dept of Social Welfare say I have to put myself forward or they're cancelling my Job seekers allowance completely so I'd get nothing. I had a plan to be finished that Java course as soon as I can and then I'd hopefully be able to get a job a lot easier but now it looks like I won't get time to finish the java course and be stuck for a year doing this An Tus rubbish. I don't want to be stuck picking up papers and doing useless stuff that no-one else wants to do for 12 months, I think I'd be bored beyond belief. I just don't think I could stick at it at all. However I don't want to lose my jobseekers allowance either and I don't want to waste a whole year on this thing. I don't know what to do. It's a nightmare situation. Someone else said even if you find a fulltime course that you'd like to do or some kind of internship that if you're on an tus that you're stuck in it. Is that true?

I suppose I'll have to put myself forward for it anyway or they'll stop my jobseeker's allowance. The next year is looking like it's going to be a bad one for me. Jobbridge website isn't even working now.
