I'd imagine that the tunnels are primarily used to bring in goods restricted by the sanctions imposed by Israel many of which are things we would consider everyday items chocolate, orange juice & batteries

I would imagine by intelligence reports, aerial surveillance and whatever other means they have. That does not mean they are not entitled to try and put a stop to potential threats, do they need to wait until there is a successful terrorist attack via a tunnel before they react? Just because their efforts have been successful so far is not a guarantee, not when people keep trying to attack you.

So you're as baffled as me as to why all of a sudden now they need to start bombing beaches and apartment blocks? Glad we cleared that up.

Bombing beaches is disgraceful and unforgiveable, I cannot imagine what was there that needed attacking. Apartment blocks? Who knows? It is not after all unheard of to use residential areas as cover. But beaches?

Any reports I've seen have said that Israel are trying to close down the whole tunnel network in Gaza which would include the tunnels to Egypt used to bring in supplies(as well as arms)

I can't think of any valid reason for tunnels to Israel

I post in these threads a lot, but I like to think my views are well balanced. I argue for the rights of Palestinian people even after Israel decides to de esculate their attacks on Gaza.

I'm totally against all human rights abuses in Gaza, including the persecution of homosexuals (I can't even say "gay community" because there is no 'community' there), political opposition (Fatah-Hamas war any one?), honor killings, using human shields etc etc

A majority here don't even know about the Egyptian involvement in the blockade.

People talk about 'disportional force used by the IDF, I agree its totally disportional but I've news for you and everyone else ~ thats how battles are won ~ go see one someday and stop living them through youtube clips and thinking you know something of what its like.

Its wrong and reprehensible that Israel are killing so many innocents, and I hope that someday they're called for answer for some their actions but Hamas also has an obligation to bring peace to its people.

Well, they are bad guys in the sense that they are Islamic fundamentalists, and that they have scant regard for the people of Gaza as they continue to poke a bear despite knowing full well that the bear will strike back.

I don't agree with Israel's occupation of Gaza and think that the current offensive against Gaza is totally disproportional but it's naive to think that Hamas wouldn't be doing the exact same if they had an army to match Israel's. The murder of innocent civilians by Israel is unacceptable, and Netanyahu should face consequences for that, but there's no point in pretending that Hamas are in any way "good guys".

Why do so many people think there is still "good guys" and "bad guys" in war? War is inherently bad for all parties involved.

And of course, like every other Irish "expert" you had to break out the line about the abilities of the Isreali military. Excuse them for having the audacity to be one of the most technologically advanced country's in the world when they have been fighting for there own survival from all sides since day one.

Ha they have done a lot more attacking than defending. The poor things. Very few Israeli casualties.

Israel commits war crimes in every war it has, phosphorus and chemical warfare

Israel kills civilians whole scale 1 in 5 murders is a child

Israel keeps the Palestinian population in the largest prison camp in the world with everything from paper to sewage pipes not allowed in

So there is no surprise that HAMAS want to kill them
