So,the isralies had some of their citizens murdered and as usual have to kill 10-20 palestinians for every 1 israelie they lost.Scores of innocents will be murdered including a few littel girls already killed and Garth brooks gets teh headline of each newspaper.

I just explained how I don't equate all of Palestine as Hamas. I literally just said that. What is 'random execution'? An execution is a capital punishment within a chosen country.

I understand the context, but my point is that Hamas is accomplishing nothing for those who voted for them by firing rockets into Israe;, expensive rockets that are swatted away by Iron Dome. They're inviting retaliatory attacks and at this moment they have the option of Egypt's proposed truce or - considering the status quo will not sustain - a ground assault from Israel. Surely you protect your people and sign the truce?

I agree with you there. The rockets are now ineffectual. Armed struggle is a tactic not a principle, if the tactic isn't working then it should be abandoned.

Agree.People can justify the slaughter to themselves by tarring the palestinians as Muslim extremists and brainless fanatics that want to wipe out Israel.
The fact is most palestinians want to prosper,want freedom ,want a land they can call their own but if they try and assert themselves they are beaten down and attacked.To paint them all as terrorists eases peoples sadness at the situation.

Which is exactly what was being done earlier in the thread - dehumanizing an entire population of people. As I've said before the Palestinians have been reduced to little more than lab rats that the Israelis test their security/defence wares on. The Palestinians cannot win by force - they can only hope to energize the BDS movement and I'm sure that the latest round of blood-letting will see further divestment.

The Israeli state and Hamas are very aware that the battle has long moved from Israel/Palestine and is now being fought in the consciousness of the Western public.

The west (rightly) stood up against Milosevic' (nominally Christian) Serbia when it was brutalising muslims in Kosova. So I don't buy this simplistic suggestion.

I agree that should have stopped this morning, also would have helped if someone spoke to them about the ceasefire, seeing as they are saying they heard about it via the media first. Seems to me that there was a huge screw up in communication, which has contributed to the resumption of violence.

I think perhaps when negotiating a ceasefire, its best to you know inform both sides, and not ignore one completely, and present the whole thing via the media as fait acompli, as its most likely to not work. I have to say, who exactly taught it was a good idea to not contact Hamas about the ceasefire? Perhaps they shouldn't be allowed to act as a mediator in future, due to the incompetence.
