That reminds me of the incentified increments system in the civil service, another pet hate. Apparently on a 5 point scale no manager scores their civil service employees below 3, so the whole wage bill goes up on aggregate cos the managers won't do their fuppin job i.e. grade their workforce according to a normal curve.....

this practice has now become so ingrained that the public service unions are fighting so that no employee can be scored below 3/5. You couldn't make it up, the unions want to deny the existence of below average performance.

p.s. Shur we all know our permanent government only perform above average, hence why they get paid 30-40% more than the 'average workers' in the private sector....

Going to the mothers for dinner and having her recite the hour long conversation she had with the women in the coffee shop that morning word for word, thankfully I can zone out now and only pick up bits and pieces.

eg.

Bettys sons wifes brothers aunty was in hospital for two weeks and she ended up in the same room as Marys husbands uncle and never even knew until Collette turned up to visit John and saw Helen in the bed opposite, but Helen was leaving that day her son Mark was picking her up, now Mark......zone out.......zone back in......and Betty had only €2 on her so had to put the strawberries back........and zone back out again.

I kid you not word for word remembers absolutely everything that was discussed and mentioned at the coffee shop, who she saw and who they were with and what they had to eat and drink. Think she could remember how to turn the TV on? Not a chance.

My wife's hearing is gone at the moment (sinuses or something, both her ears are blocked up), but it's doing my head in the way every time she talks she's shouting, had the tv up full blast last night... I can't listen to her because I have hypersensitive hearing under normal circumstances

On the upside, the expression on her face is priceless every time I'm talking to her and I'm moving my lips as if I'm talking, but she thinks it's because of her hearing being gone that she can't hear anything...

It's no joke, I've had my right ear blocked up since Friday and it's only been getting worse. I'd say I've lost about 80% of my hearing. I'm like an auld lad having to cock my head towards the person who is talking.

The worst is when there is no ambient noise and all I hear is a horrible hissing/ringing tone inside my head. That and eating or touching my head which sounds incredibly loud for some reason and I keep thinking I'm being very noisy.

I'll be calling into the pharmacist at lunch time for some industrial strength ear drops. Ear we go, ear we go, ear we go...........
