Ah sure if your whole drive is gravel it's not a dig deal to dig a trench for the swa cable it's just if you had Tarmac or concrete it would be a bigger job.

The time has come. My GFs mother is probably going to give the thumbs up to sell the old Corolla. She's inheriting her sons 03 Corolla tomorrow and ive been given the all clear to pop it up for sale. Only, ive no idea what its worth.

1995, 1.3 petrol Corolla. 54k miles, with a few little bumps and taps as pictured below. No bells or whistles, but certainly never abused. I dont think anyone under 50 has even driven it.
NCT until April 2015
TAX until Aug 2014
Full new exhaust (old one clipped a gate stopper and the whole thing had to be replaced)
Bonnet and Roof resprayed about a year ago (living beside the sea for 17 years took its toll)

Good clean examples can fetch near €1k easily. If it was 3dr you could get north of that.

Unfortunately young lads tend to buy these and tart them up a bit. Not that theres anything entirely wrong with that, but it would be a shame to see a nice example like that end up as a 20v rep or some such.

I'd have it up on Donedeal for €800 with a good ad and good photos. 1 owner?

Them dents are nothing to be worried about - hell it's a near 20 year old car, if someone starts whinging about them, they need a kick!

I think I've only seen one recently that was in near as good a condition as that. It's survived well, that's for sure. Back when Toyota's were built solid.

A saloon doesn't really do me any good, but I do think it's a nice car, all the same, so worth considering, I suppose. I was wondering if anyone here knows more about these and could perhaps comment?

Are they a good/bad car in general (reliability-wise)? As it's an Audi, I assume it's expensive to fix anything that does go wrong? It's a 1.9 diesel, so can anyone hazard a guess with regard to MPG (wouldn't imagine it's much better, if indeed at all better, than my 1.8 petrol Rav4?)

I'm tempted, but I'm also not too fussed, so not sure what to do. It's also a move down in years, which I wasn't planning to do, but like I say, it looks like a nice car all-in-all, so not sure.

Anyone able to push me in any direction with any comments or opinions on a 1.9 diesel 2002 Audi A4?

Technically you can run 225/40/18's all round, even with a staggered wheel setup. How do I know? It's what I'm running currently :P

It's not even stretching the tyres. I've checked manufacturers specs, they allow 225's to be used up to 9J rims without being outside recommended specs!

Considering GY Eagle F1's are currently €560 for a set fitted locally, I'm not sure I can see the benefit in going for cheaper tyres. There's fup all savings really.

That model a4 in general is a very nice comfortable reliable car. The 1.9 tdi engine would be one of the best and most common Diesel engines every made. It's in my golf. Volkswagen made the engine in a few different bhp outputs and stuff through out the years. Mpg wise on any kind of a decent spin not trying hard you will get 50mpg which is extremely good for the age of the engine etc and a long way of the mid 20s you probably get in the rav4.

So in principle it would be a good car to swap too. Yet I wouldn't touch that one with a barge pole tbh. Chances are it's some young lad has it. It's been lowered was that a bodge job ? The problem with modified looking a4s is there is a good chance they've had a hard life and then suddenly the 150k miles is a lot as it had the sh!t driven out of it all the time. If the car was original I'd jump at it but like that is be put of now infairness maybe that car is extremely minded and the guy never drove it hard and just liked the lowered look and big alloys it's unlikely enough though. You could always go look at it I suppose no harm in that and see what the owners like.

MPG would be way better than the Rav, easily double. However, personally I would not touch that example. It, in my opinion, is far too low and has very nasty wheels. Milage is questionably low and the ad doesn't mention any history. It might be well looked after but there are unmodified examples going for half that money…

Having said that, a lot of people love those cars so if you like it go check out. Make sure you have a mechanic look at it too before buying.

Tbh those are some of the nicest alloys I've seen on an A4 in quite some time (outside of BBS). Stick the OE centre cap in, and they actually don't look too crazy. Just take a look at a lot of the OE alloys these days (Seat/Vag/etc).

Ride comfort is going to be absolutely destroyed though. 19's and lowered. It's bad enough with 18's :pac:

2 owners now, but it's been in the family from new I think.

800 sounds about right, especially with nearly a years nct and a couple of months tax.

I like that A4, the wheels look really well on it and it's one of the bet colours they came in.
Just because it's modified doesn't mean it's been beat to death, judge the car on its own merits and not those perceived of a certain stereo-type.

By all mean, be careful when viewing but tht goes for any car.
I'd have a look.

KKV the other thing you need to think about is if you're driving a 1.8 petrol rav4 do you need a diesel??
What's your mileage like?

I am one on the not liking the wheels group here but they are only wheels and can be changed. The rest of the car seems ok.

If you're interested maybe have a meet and see, what's there to lose?

Also with that a4 you'd want to check it was a 130bhp from the factory ie has a 6 speed gearbox and that it's not just a 5 speed 90 or 105 bhp chipped to an apparent 130bhp. A guy in work has a completely unmodified 05 old model 115bhp 6 speed a4 like that one but unmodified Audi factory alloys and it is a seriously nice car fairly quick to for what it is. He has it about 4 years and loves it.
