Only cheap, fourth-rate countries don't have an embassy to the Holy See.

im from a rural area too , a quarter seems low to me , twenty years ago you could count on one hand the number of people who didn't go each week , id say close to 50% of people in much of rural Ireland go to mass each week

Yep, there are actually more countries that run their diplomatic missions to Ireland though foreign embassy, usually in London, than there are countries with embassies in Ireland. We are only a country of 4.5 million people after all.

You keep mentioning that one survey that uses a sample group of 2000 people (and correct me if I'm wrong, I could very well be, but unlikely they counted every head in every church for a year)

If you think over a million people attend church a week, well... what's there to say to you?

Disneyland is more of a real country than Vatican City.

If we do send an ambassador to the Vatican should we get him to vent our concern regarding human rights in their "country".
No non Catholic can become head of state (Religious Discrimination)
No women can become head of state (Sexual Discrimination)
Not everyone has a vote in their elections.

Also from a rural area and the local church only has one mass on a Sunday compared to 3 masses on a Sunday 20 years ago.

You're taking something to be used as a very rough indicator of who attends church and trying to apply it to a whole country. Not working out here.
