And there we have it a go at Rangers just for the sake if it. I at no point defended the Dutch police so gave you no reason to have a go but you did because you are a very bitter person and to be frank very pathetic. This is not about my club

So essentially, they broke the law. Provocation isn't an excuse. I'm not saying that there were not other guilty parties but that doesn't make these people less guilty.

Like I said in my post much earlier, I never expected them to be let off. Even in developed countries police are generally given free reign to batter people and if you stand up for yourself you are going to get punished (both immediately and later on, in court).

I think the key area that is making people feel aggrieved is the awarding of damages to the thugs who instigated and exacerbated the violence, as well as a complete lack of any reprimand for them.

Like Dempsey said you would hope people (not just Celtic fans) steer well clear of this city in future. I do not know many people who would feel safe visiting a city where the police are allowed to dress up as football hooligans, assault bystanders on camera and then be awarded damages for the pleasure of it. It's a vile indictment of the justice system, obviously you and some others here are unable to put their childish differences aside and see sense and that's your prerogative. I know several more decent fans of other clubs (even Ajax) who have been equally outraged by this.

Imagine accusing people of "revisionism" while in the very same post using the phrase "broke a few chairs" to describe football hoolgians tearing up a large number of seats and throwing them at fans and stewards, injuring both and causing the police to intervene.

I landed at central station early Tuesday afternoon and the ticket collector told me to be careful as ajax fans were running amok in Glasgow,think they wrecked a newsagent and caused trouble in a pub aswell

It still doesn't change the scenes we were treated to with Celtic fans, possibly in reaction to intimidation and/or heavy handed tactics, reacted with violence.
It still doesn't change the fact that Ajax fans did not wreck Glasgow, and no matter how many times it was said it won't change that fact.

They got into a scrap, they got caught, they got punished.
It happens week in, week out around football matches all over Europe - Including Celtic matches.
They're not martyrs, stop making them out to be.

I didn't say they were martyrs, what I'm saying is there is an issue with Ajax and with Amsterdam as a football venue and if the powers that be continue to ignore it, there is going to be a serious incident at a CL game there in the future. This current matter with Celtic will blow over, it's not a problem for Celtic, though right now it directly affects those few fans involved in the court cases. The bigger problem in this incident is the problem with Amsterdam as a soccer venue and the fact that the powers that be in Holland are trying to paper over the cracks and deflect from their own much larger problems with hooligan Ajax fans.

Maybe they don't but they ****in should. They don't have control over what happens outside stadiums, but if a venue is not being policed properly they should have some say about whether that venue is suitable for CL or EL games or not. Currently in Holland Ajax fans are banned from traveling to Rotterdam for games v Feyenoord and vice versa, this ban has been in force for the last 5 years I believe. This sort of thing doesn't happen by accident.

I think there's a sweeping under the carpet thing going on in Amsterdam, with attention being deflected onto Celtic fans at the minute in relation to these recent incidents. There will be more problems there in Amsterdam in the future by the looks of it.

I was at the Ajax Celtic preseason game last summer. While obviously there wasn't the same numbers as for the CL game, there was still a massive travelling support

Prior to the game we were all in Dam Square, the square was absolutely packed with celtic fans singing etc, and all good natured. There were a few st pauli fans there too, and while not a huge amount, there were a good number of Ajax fans joining in the craic. From the square, out to the ground on the trams, and back again, there wasn't a hint of trouble, the locals seemed somewhat bemused by it all particularly given it was just a friendly

In dam square prior to the game, there was quiet a heavy police presence, horse and all etc. I do remember plain clothes police officers there, as they seemed to be just sitting back and observing, but as I said, not a hint of trouble, so I was surprised to hear about what went on the other week. Do the Amsterdam police have a history or reputation for this sort of thing? It can't be unusual for them dealing with large numbers of away fans, so is this sort of thing a regular occurrence with them?

One other major difference from the game I was at was the earlier kick off, while there was plenty of drink had, perhaps the later kick off meant many were well oiled by the time the trouble started

I was led to believe that the rumours of Boots in Central Station being attacked, and Failte being wrecked were simply internet rumours. (Although, having worked for long enough in Failte I'm not sure anyone would notice the difference!

I'm not suggesting that there was no trouble at all, but "Ran Amok" seems a bit of an exaggeration to me.

Lennonist - I get what you're saying, but i'll be entirely honest when i say i'm struggling to be sympathetic to the Celtic fans who reacted in the way they did, and that I find the unwillingness of certain sections of the Celtic support, and indeed the club themselves, to whitewash it completely a little galling given events of the past.

That said, those caught up in the pub that was attacked the night before, and those who were caught up in the rest and attempted to get away from the trouble rather than chase after it have my full support.

Those who were attacked in the pub, did the people who attacked them get sentenced to a few weeks in jail? There's a sense that there are different rules for different fans, a bit of consistency and transparency would help.

I've no idea - i doubt it would have made the news here either way to be fair.

General mocking of the Celtic support in regard to claims of "heavy handedness" from other supporters, often official club mocking at that.
Green Bin Bags spring to mind for instance.

It may be petty, but I'm trying to be entirely honest here - things like that have a tendency to lessen the chances of a sympathetic ear from me.
