I agree with a lot of that I mean for some folks 25-30Mb is more than enough. There should be some option for it.

I got an email from UPC on Friday thanking us for being part of the Horizon trial. They were looking to move us onto one of their Horizon bundles.

Currently we have 50mb Broadband, Select Extra and phone for €68.50. They were offering the Horizon Essential Bundle with same TV and phone but with 100mb broadband for €73.

I see today that they have upped the broadband speed in this pack to 120mb.

Does anyone know if we will get this if we go for the "post-trial" upgrade?
If I try to order it online from the link in the mail it still says 100mb.
If I just order the Horizon Essential Bundle there is an extra €45 activation fee.

Does HD channels on the new horizon box look as good as on the sky hd box?

I signed up for the latest firmware update a couple of days ago and actually downloaded it last night at about midnight. It took about 10-15 minutes. Was too tired to play around with it but had a quick peek. The general UI and EPG hasn't changed but I guess that has to be expected as this update is supposed to fix the iffy recording issues. Will play around with later and check if the update has stabilised the recording functionality.
Hopefully UPC will drip-feed these updates at a steady pace over the coming months. They haven't done themselves any favours by releasing a service that has failed to meet with customer expectations. Despite this, I think (hope) that the Horizon box can eventually deliver an an innovative entertainment experience.

i got the firmware update to the horizon box yesterday.
Noticed absolutely no difference, does anyone know what they changed / fixed? they said the changes were to the 'My recordings' section. Was hoping they would have added the delete series option but no luck.

I also moved to the 120Mb from 50Mb yesterday and i'd no internet at all last night. Engineer was due out tomorrow but just talking to different tech guy and it seems the box is online again in the last 20 minutes so touch wood will be ok tonight.

has anyone else noticed this? presume it was the firmware update.

Hi Ciaran, I installed the firmware update last night too. Haven't had time to play around it but like you said, there seems to be no obvious UI difference. I'm guessing it has fixed the stability issues people have been reporting. My internet was fine last night.

Probably smoothed out stuff such as audio drops on the recordings. Wait and see.

Decided to bite the bullet and ring UPC yesterday about switching to their post-trial offer. After a little negotiation I got
200mb bb,
Max TV
keep my Anytime World phone and multiroom Digital+ (1)

all for €82.03.

Sounded good to me - any thoughts?

Wouldn't that equate to the new Horizon Complete Bundle at 80 Euro + 1 multi-room at 6 Euros, so a 4 Euro discount ..

Was that what you thought ?
Or did they give you the impression of a greater discount ?

On a previous call I got a no budge - 'no we don't offer discounts with Horizon'. So this time I pushed for a discount on the multi-room. Guess it's the best they'll do for now. It just over €3 more than what I was on before and includes a mind bending 200 mb. Probably will go with it - 30 day cooling off

I got the same setup (with 150Mb bb) for €76 last month, despite being told a number of times that there were no discounts for Horizon. Bill was all over the place (1 month refunded and chanrged for 2) but it was around what I expected. I'll have to wait for this months bill to see what the normal charge will be.

I noticed that the horizon boxes are coming with the wifi set to channel 1, same as UPCs old routers......nothing but problems in around Limerick on this frequency, changed it to ch11 for 2 customers so far extending the range and making it work for xbox....

anyone else tried this?

I think you could ask 100 different people and get a 100 different answers. I've had nothing but trouble with mine since I got it a few weeks ago. Some of the features work some of the time but I can't rely on it to be working fully and correctly all the time. It seems to work when it feels like it.

The problems I'm having are,

1 live pause only works when it feels like it.
2 on demand only works when it feels like it.
3 recording programmes rarely works at all.

Is very strange but as it is I certainly can't recommend it over Sky from my experience with it so far. Am regretting having switched from Sky to be honest. But that's just my experience. Maybe there are some people out there that haven't had any problems at all.

I've had the Horizon box for a few months (was on the trial) and find it very good.

The only thing I would say is that with Sky, you get a few more bells and whistles, like Sky Go and red button functionality, so if TV is your main focus then Sky is probably a better bet.

But if you want TV that's almost as good and broadband that's infinitely better than pretty much anyone else, go for UPC.

I think for the whole phone, bband and TV package - UPC is best. I've had great success with My Horizon box and because it's software driven there's lots more they can do with it in the future. Sounds like turning off Media scanning and changing the wifi channels would have sorted 90% of your issues.

I was on 50mb but changed to 200mb yesterday. On 50mb I could get about 45mb over wifi. On 200mb I'm still getting that. I checked the wired connection and it was approx 170mb. So I checked wifi channel and it was set to auto and assigned channel 12. I used inssider to check channels and 11 seemed best so I changed it but wifi still not going above 50mb...

Any ideas?

You don't get full speed on wifi. The wifi card on your laptop has limitations. I get full speed when wired, on an old laptop around 25mb, on the newish laptop around 50mb and on my phone around 45mb.

So the wifi speed will depend on your hardware of your laptop / pc / phone or any other device.

Having said that if you have a big house then you may get weak wifi signal that can affect the performance but not when you are close to the upc box.

with average of 15MB - 25MB
This is due to iPhone 4 limitation and not horizon
