I know you've said it a few times the difference is only 5-10% so for the extra cost not worth it. When you see 7970's going for that money it does get tempting though:( Speaking of getting a second card of a different brand, would a blower style fan be better for the top card? As in pumps the heat out the back insted of back into the case? Thinkin the HIS ones going for cheap on ocuk Im fairly positive the vapor x will be fine as the bottom card. The voltage is 1.240 at load on the vapor x no matter what clocks I have so I reckon I may be able to undervolt it a little, it does 1150/1500 at that voltage so doubt ill get that overclock in crossfire so may be able to reduce the voltage and mildly overclock it to help with temps Is there any issues with two different brand cards?
raymix wrote: » it's fine as long as it's 650. Anything else will be symmetric to weakest card.. like if you run 1GB card in SLI with 2GB, both will run on 1GB only, same goes for frequencies and other stuff edit: your card doesn't support SLI. You need at least 650ti Boost (2way sli only) and up. Look for cards with SLI bridge slot on top. I would highly suggest looking at bargain's thread in PC building forum instead. 7950 goes for about 230 and will easily blow dual 650 ti boost out of water alone. It is equal to 670 in performance and performs better at higher resolutions over 1080p. Keep in mind that 650ti boost is equal to 7850 and very close to 660 in terms of performance and is much stronger than 650 ti. 650ti again is quite a bit stronger than 650 you've got. Just to give you an idea of gain. However card like 7950 can be easily bottlenecked by older CPU.
Sonics2k wrote: » Cheers for the advice from both of you. Raymix, are you positive it doesn't support SLI? The manual, box, drivers and software all say it's SLI capable. It's a new card and PC, so I'm not really any rush to upgrade the card or go SLI yet.
Deano12345 wrote: » The stock 650Ti doesn't support SLi, however the 650Ti Boost does. I'd say if the manual and box are saying it supports SLi, it's a Boost. Easy way to check for the SLi at the top corner near the IO panel, there will be a connector for SLi.
Sonics2k wrote: » It's just the 650. I managed to confirm it on the site that it does support SLi, but at least now I'm certain I don't need to get one of the same brand for it to work.
The SLI bridge is used to reduce bandwidth constraints and send data between both graphics cards directly. It is possible to run SLI without using the bridge connector on a pair of low-end to mid-range graphics cards (e.g. 7100GS or 6600GT) with NVIDIA's Forceware drivers 80.XX or later. Since these graphics cards do not use as much bandwidth, data can be relayed through just the chipsets on the motherboard. However, if no SLI bridge is used on two high-end graphics cards, the performance suffers severely as the chipset does not have enough bandwidth.

EoinHef wrote: » Thanks man i appreciate that:) I think im gonna just buy a second vapor x and see what clocks i can squeeze out of them, add a few case fans aswell to improve airflow. The Vapor X has dropped to GBP199.99 on overclockers so hopefully get it delivered for about €250 The Wolf Among Us looks brilliant, watched the first episode of a playthrough just to get a preview
raymix wrote: » Apologies, it does support SLI, indeed. However you will need a similar GTX 650 card that supports it, too, doesn't matter which manufacturer tho... it cannot be either 650ti or 650ti boost! Those 2 are different cards. I just took a quick glance at top of the card at first. Aparantly it is possible to run SLI on some low-mid range cards without an SLI bridge: Interesting...
