Why does the EU allow the Running of the Bulls?

This happened during this morning's run!

Hare coursing greyhounds must have muzzles in Ireland, but in Spain bulls don't have horns cut.............why?

The bulls run a mile and s bit from a pen, through the streets and into the stadium into another pen and then let out one by one for 3-5 mind each to run around for a bit while there are a hundred or so people in the ring trying not to get in the way.

If bullfighting was banned in the morning people would go to san fermin in their hundreds of thousands every year just fir the fiesta.

Best festival in the world.

I have friends from there and they explained what happens.

Basically the Locals take it serious and go to bed early, the tourists stay out late drinkign in the bars and are genreally hung over or drunk durin the bull running and its only the tourists that get hurt.

the locals would prefer if the tourists didn't go.

It may be a few hours after the run but supporting the run is still supporting the fighting element to it.

I don't disagree that people would still go if it was banned, infact that's even better! Ban the bull fighting and still have a great festival, win win. I've several friends who have been and said it was a brilliant festival.

Book your hotel/hostel well in advance (like January) and get to the town hall at around 8am when the close off the streets and allow people to enter the course from the one opening. Gate closes at 8am. Anyone in the streets before the the streets are closed is forced off the course by the cops.

About 10 minutes before the bulls are released people are allowed to move along the course to the part they want to run (you can't run the whole course, its impossible).

See I'd love to do it too, and if I got hurt it'd be me my own damn fault, but I wouldn't have much interest in watching it die.

I have no interest in the bullfighting, I wouldn't care I'd it was banned. I didn't go to the stadium even though I was offered free tickets.

But doing the run was one of the best memories of my life. I'm definitely going back next year. I was there 5 summers ago.

Course I see the difference, I look at things as they are and try extract some amount of positivity. I just dislike this whole ban-everything kick that people are on. I agree with you in that I would have no interest in the fighting part of the event but the bull run would be great.

I'd agree, I've always had an interest in doing it, it'd be a massive thrill! If the bull got he's day out on the town mauling everyone and got to go back to his pen again I'd see nothing wrong with it. I really dislike the bullfighting though and would prefer it banned.

Fair enough the numbers have dropped since the mink fur trade finished but having healthy mink numbers but still having them in cages ready to be killed for fur doesn't seem much better than the situation now.

And I don't think the bull population would suffer in the same way if the bull fighting industry was banned :P

It is funny to watch during the bull-run when all the bulls have already passed certain people, these people continue to run full pelt after the bulls. You just avoided a mauling you dingus, slow down!!!!!

A cultural tradition in which people who are conscious of the risk and danger involved should obviously not be banned. As far as I can see the bulls are not harmed during the event. So why ban it?

They are viewed as pests when not beingfarmed. It's all well and good being moral about your consumption butthe simple fact is that animals that are not of use to us quickly getwiped out especially those that are pests.

Obviously banning bull fighting won'treduce the bovine population but if these beasts are bredspecifically for these events would they have been kept at all ifthey were male? Is the bullfighting providing a usefulness for themale bulls that would otherwise have not been kept?

Better odds than a slaughterhouse. That's a pretty cold comment, I would value a human life over that of an animal. It also undermines your argument about cruelty when you wish for people to die.
