not always .. the passage ways in some filters actually can become ever so slightly clogged when using certain long life oils. never knew this till my mechanic told me

on a side note we damaged a pto shaft a few days ago

new 1 was €160 ,

managed to dismantle our own 1 , got new inner tube, new safety chain, new locking pin, new cover guard ring and re assembled , as good as new , all for under €30

These units would be used in conjunction with the regular filters, but they go a step further, filtering out to a higher level. They extend the life of the hydraulic oil. More for environmental reasons than anything, I was told.

me too, im of the opinion now that it is usually cheaper to by a new shaft if its just a straight shaft, as something is probably damaged and will cause stress on some other component of the shaft and cause failure again

Changed tractor 18 months ago and had to get a new shaft for the topper as the old one was too short.

Costed it out and it was more expensive to replace profiles and covers than trade the old shaft in....

Footed ours last saturday that had been cut 10 days. 400 yards of 10 sods wide. I was sorry that I didn't bring the trailer as the 4 outside sods of each row were dry enough to bring home. At least they're off the ground now.

I pity anyone who didnt cut silage last week preferring to wait for 'bulk'. If this weather keeps up there will be plenty of bulk and a yellow butt when it stops raining.

anyone read the vet article inside the back page of the journal on botulism, scary stuff... was a dead seagull on the silage ground where we where spreading this morning, would 1 bird do the damage? i picked him up anyway just in case

Ya. Better to cut to fook, now rain or no rain, than leave it to degrade more and more, and still have to cut it in the rain, in a few weeks. Ground will be gone to margarine in another week.
I cut last week. Light but good. I kept two fields of grazing back for a bit of "bulk". Livid now, I didn't cut the whole lot.
Determined now, to cut once I get as much as one dry spell of 8 to 10 consecutive hours. Better than waiting for more and more rain, yellow butt and no doubt torn fields:(

I saw that. Scary. I was thinking of some guy on here, who was reporting, his cattle falling like flies last fall, IIRC.
