Hmmm, considering that in episode 9 we saw the ultimate price that's paid when somebody follows their heart, I couldn't help but feel Shae's decision not to leave Kings Landing effectively makes her a dead woman walking. GoT doesn't like giving couples a break, especially when it comes to romance, so I don't suspect this relationship will be any different. Happy to be proven wrong though!

Ditto Danaerys; she's now beloved of slaves everywhere, which surely make her a big target in some peoples' eyes. That said, her conquest of that city now leaves me a bit baffled: what is her play here? The desire to return to the Iron Throne seemed straightforward enough, pretty understandable & her march part of that goal, but liberating an entire city seems a bit odd. Does she intend bringing these thousands along with her to war? Seems unlikely, in which case why doesn't she simply make herself a new Kingdom where she is - she's certainly gone a long way to achieving that already. Hell, the weather'll be nicer anyway. Her motivations have become a little unclear - although perhaps she's just getting off on becoming this mythical Messiah figure.

And 10 episodes later, we finally find out who was torturing Theon - even if the clues were always there - and the ransom letter is sent. Ok, his sister's monologue about rescuing Theon was pretty bad-ass, but in any other show we'd be hopping up and down about that plot-strand's glacial pace. Feels like a broken record at this stage, but arrrghhh, put Theon out of his / our misery.

Speaking of things glacial though, I was surprised how quickly Stannis & chums decided to drop the whole 7 Kingdoms plot, in favour of fighting the White Walkers up North. Tbh, I was expecting episodes-worth of scepticism & denial. Instead, Stannis / Davos read one small note and decide to prepare for war. That seems a little sudden, no?

Disappointed there wasn't more involving Jamie's return to Kings Landing - that was an arc that deserved more screentime & stretching out, after everything that has happened him. Less Theon, more Jamie please.

As for the other token scenes dropped in - Arya & Hound team-up could be interesting, though one wonders where she goes now. Perhaps the Blackfish will figure somehow - good to hear he's alive & that there are still some allies left.

The Kings Landing scenes were a bit silly - I get that nobody respects Joffrey, but the guy is still in power & pretty psychotic (when not chewing the scenery with his ranting): the entire Council openly mocking him seemed bizarrely dangerous. The scene was redeemed by the Tywin / Tyrion confrontation though, stellar stuff & you'd hope Charles Dance gets some recognition come awards season.

Oh and funniest moment was when Poderick walked through the garden & received looks & giggles from passing girls. G'wan the Pod!

I liked how the very last scenes of season 1 and 3 were similar, with Danaerys initially standing in the desert with a few Dothraki and baby dragons, and 2 seasons later with an army of thousands. She's hardly going to continue on with all the new slaves though, since only a certain portion of them would be any use in an army, so will she set up the city in a less slave-y fashion and carry on with whatever warriors they have?

Loved the Arya/Hound scenes but is there any mention of where they're headed? They really have nowhere to go...it'd be interesting if she wanted to head to Braavos and took the Hound with her! I'd love to see Jaqen H'ghar again, if only he hadn't changed his face :pac:

Once Jon Snow finds out Bran has gone North of the Wall, will he try to get him? I can't imagine that he'd let him wander around up there when he knows what's there.

I thought it was a great episode, still not over the shock of last week (:() but it makes for a lot of interesting scenes next season...Cersei's and Tywin's reaction to Jamie especially.

By far the best character. Almost every time we see him we get glimpses of his history. From his ruthless upbringing of his children yet his clear love of them by teaching Jamie to read when no one else could. His ruthless defence of his family from the elimination of the Rains to the current war yet he standups to the worst sadistic excesses of Joffrey.

If there is ever a spin off series I hope it is his story and they do it soon so that Charles Dance is still young enough to carry it off.

Daenaerys has picked herself up quite a useless army there from Junkai. Is that the city where all the slaves are bed-slaves? And all her existing soldiers are eunuchs. What a waste.

Sam has developsed a bit more backbone and confidence in the last two episodes

Been wondering what Dany's plan is too, is she planning on attacking all the free cities before turning to Westeros? She's also presumably the only one capable of effectively dealing with the white walkers with her large army and fire.

I thought the Kingslanding stuff was good, wasn't the full small council making fun of Joffrey, only 2 of them, and both after Joffrey attacked them first (and both family).

I thought this was one of the better episodes in the series, seemed to go at a nice pace, only part I wasn't bothered with was the Sansa/Tyrion scene

It seems sansa is beginning to like tyrion a bit going by the scene where they were outside walking.

Re-watching and it is better then I first thought. Some great lines.
Some good story tie-ups, and a great start for next season.

Watched it again on Sky.
The variation of the main theme during that final scene is superb.

All in all, I'd say it was the strongest episode this season. No, it didn't have the shock of last weeks, but there was lots of story progression. Bolton & Frey cleared up any speculation on who was the mastermind of the Red Wedding. It's clear there's a lot of unhappy campers in the Lannister camp, which could lead to them implosion/explosion. I wouldn't be surprised to see Walder Frey press one of them for a favour at the wrong time, and find himself in an awfully dire situation.

Is Varys really this moral a character? I thought he was the weasel from season 1, but through all his interactions with other characters, he actually seems a person concerned with fate of the realms more than anything else, not that he'd necessarily stick his neck out to say so!

Very strong episode I thought. Certainly did a good job of tying up all the loose ends and setting us up nicely for next year. I thought it was kind of strange to hide the identity of Theon's torturer and who was responsible for the sack of winterfell for a whole season, but I guess they didn't want to give too much away about the Boltons.

Been a great season overall, the nine month wait is going to be tough. Stannis and Davos vs the white walkers, Arya meeting up with the faceless man, Bran heading North, Yara vs The Boltons

And so our watch begins...

That was Illyrio Mopatis, who we saw early in Season 1 arranging Daenerys's wedding to Drogo and discussing with her brother Viserys how the peasants of Westeros were waiting for his triumphant return.

I was so shocked when Jon was hit with the three arrows but I loved the expression on Ygritte's face as she was doing it- it was an perfect mixture of love and hate and the exact same time. She loves Jon but hates that he has chosen to go without her- I just think that it was acted so well.

Obviously the wedding in last week's was so jaw-dropping and shocking but I was almost just as taken aback by the Ygritte and Jon scene in this episode. True love just doesn't seem to catch a break in this show at all

They had to do it like that. If the audience had of known from the start of the series that it was the Bolton's who sacked Winterfell and were torturing Theon the Red Wedding and Bolton's betrayal would have been a lot less of a shock.

What I find interesting is that Tywin believes Bolton will act as Steward to Winterfell until Little Thyrion comes of age, if we learnt anything from Lord of the Rings it's that Stewards don't like to give up their power.

Yes that is the word, think it was said to mean "all men must die". Doubt she is summoning him because he told her to hand the coin to a man from Bravos and then say Valar Morghulis...

Will have to rewatch this episode. Good to see Theon's captor finally confirmed although the actor who plays Bolton's Bastard is terrible, and like something from a sketch show, completely against the rest of the tone of the show. Also strange that Davos had so little belief in Melissandre's magic, yet was quick to believe in the happening's beyond the wall.

I think that's the point. People seem to be complaining about his scenes having no point, dragging on, and just wanting them to end. Wishing (who we now know is) Ramsey (but Theon doesn't?) would just kill him.

That's what theon is feeling. Who is this person, why am I here? Why is he doing these awful things, I've been here for so long, will it ever end? Just kill me, you've taken my manhood, kill me please.

It's torture, it's supposed to be drawn-out and uncomfortable. I'm don't like watching it but it makes sense to put it in. I'm sure we will be given a reason as to why it's happening, but for now I think we are supposed to feel frustrated and angry that it all seems like its for nothing. Just like the character feels.

I thought it was a good episode. Sets up next season well. Ending scene was a bit too cheesey to have the feeling of hopefullness they were aiming for I think!

only gripe was the "secret gate" through the wall. It looked like a massive tunnel with a huge opening!

No, not that she's summoning him. The guy thats fighting for Dany said the same thing before he beheaded the other two dudes. Seems to be some kind of saying for impeeding death.

Solid episode but it was trying to tie up too many storylines. Great scenes with Tywin and Arya and The Hound.
