To Complain or not to complain!!!

I recently purchased a bag of crisps which had no best before date or any of that info on it, the area where the info usually goes was completely blank. Should I write a letter to the company about this?? Is it illegal for food companys not to print a best before date on a food product??

Hmm new 'scam' idea, write to a load of companies with a complaint..... Most will send you a voucher as goodwill.

Good question!!sayin that I did include the bag from the crisps with my letter as proof but ya'd never know???

I used to work in a small corner shop. When anything went out of date I used to get nail varnish remover and remove the dates off everything. Half the stock in the shop was out of date. No one ever complained. I was against it but was 16 and needed the money

Have you ever eaten coleslaw that was past its use by date? I have and pity the people that were either in front or behind me when it kicked in! Was not a pretty sight. As I said earlier - Best Before is a guideline - Use By is a deadline!

Granted, some things can be used after the Use By date - meat (if it's well cooked) but some things are better thrown out! Try sitting on a bus from Sligo to Galway after eating an egg sandwich that was out of date - no word of big food corporations then! Bus had to be stopped 4 times! And one of those was in the middle of nowhere - either stop or mega mess for them to clean up.

Best before - def only a guideline. Used to work in a wee shop. Some of the kids used to try and take crisps and chocs back that were on the BBF date. Tried to explain what it meant and used to eat the stuff in front of them

In the end, is down to the customer - if they are convinced that something is past its BBF date today and they eat it, they are gonna get sick.....some won't. But when it comes to Use By.....just throw it out.

Funny story bout the Use By Date thing. Years ago, my mum bought a fresh chicken in Letterkenny in one of the major chain shops.....so major, they have two of them in the town

When she opened the pack, the smell was terrible - even the dog ran away! Had a look at the pack and noticed that the label didn't look square so started peeling. There was another label underneath with a Use By stamp dated two weeks earlier!

My mum got straight on the phone to them - was put through to the Deli manager. Was told that next time she was in to ask for him. So a couple of weeks she did, was offered a large turkey and a joint of ham if she didn't go any further with it. Needless to say, that weekend we ate well
