God Father

I have been clamped in Naas by NCPS.

Feel screwed as was only gone up to the bank up the street to get money out and came back with change then to buy a ticket, but was clamped by then time I got back circa 20mins later.

I haven't got the money to pay it as I am a student, and currently searching for a Job.
Add to this that my parents are not in a position to pay it for me.

Mind you even if I had the money I don't think I would give it to the Vultures :mad:

So I plan on removing the clamp but want to ask what have people found to be the best way to do this?

I'm thinking angle grinder?

I have a friend who disassembled his suspension on his Van to get one off, took a few hours though

Was the op going shopping in a shop there? I don't know the area so have no idea what shops are there.

As Guy:Incognito said earlier, if a minimum grace period isn't signposted then you have to assume that there isn't one and decide whether or not to use the car park on that basis. That's the theoretical position - in practice i'd assume 5 mins, but i'd be keeping an eye on the car until I had the ticket.

If you respect the owner then you follow their rules when in their car park. If their rules are that you display a ticket when parked then that's what you do.

But the question is what is reasonable cause to clamp a car? You're idea of reasonable and mine are two different things obviously, which once more brings us back to the point of needing legislation.....until this happens it's a free for all.

Bear in mind that the clamper doesn't necessarily know its been 2 min 20 min or an hour. It could have been several hours since they checked that car park. The circumstances of how the car came to be there without a ticket are neither here nor there, the question is Is it reasonable cause to clamp a car if it is on private property without permission. In most Common Law countries the answer would seem to normally be yes (taking into account some countries will have specific laws, others working on precedent from common law decisions). However Ireland seems an odd one out. Interesting article here:

The suggestion here is that in Ireland, no sign restricting anything on private land is enforcable unless there is a law to back it up.

Which seems strange.

So if you take 5 minutes, its respect, 10 minutes, you have no respect.

So if you go to the parking meter and get hit by a bus and so dont make it to pay, you again have no respect for the car park owner.

The respect should be reserved for the lads that removed the clamp.
