Celtic FC Team Talk/Gossip/Rumours Thread 2011/2012

Wilson, Cha, Loovens and Dan need to be let go at the end of the season. We have a hughe squad that's fine but there's a lot of duds in there collecting a hefty wage. Add to that O'Dea, Rasmussen, Murphy etc and we can clear a huge wad off the wage bill.

Thats a sizable list of fringe players and I havent even considered those like Majstorovic, Zaluska, Cha, Commons, Wilson, Bangura & Samaras who are borderline cases in just being squad players.

As regards El Kaddouri I read on a Celtic fans FB page earlier that he has been named in the Morocco squad for the African Nations Cup starting at the end of the month and that he will be leaving the club shortly as his loan deal is up and joining the Morocco squad.

I'd also like to see Common's involved again but who knows what's going on behind the scenes.
But apart from them two I can't disagree with anyone on that list. The squad needs to be cut. In a ideal world you'd punt all of them and bring in two or three quality player from their fees and wages. Easier said then done..

As for Ki, I'd like to hold onto him for another season. 6 million isn't a massive sum considering his talent, age and international pedigree.

He's going through a good spell at the moment. Would love to see him maintain his form for the rest of the season. While he has under preformed at times, some of the abuse he has gotten in the past had been way ott. Playing wide in midfield seems to be his best position.

You can't leave yourself short of options either - personally out of the first four I'd keep Wilson and Dan as backup and get rid of Cha and Loovens. Cha is a really hard worker and is reasonably fast, terrible crosser though. Loovens has never really impressed tbh. Definitely time for him to go.

Shame about O'Dea, I always thought he had the potential to make it at Celtic but it's never going to happen now. Time to move him on. Are Leeds interested in taking him permanently? What about Ipswich with Murphy?

O' Dea's contract expires at the end of this season AFAIK

You should know by now I have a soft spot for Sammy.

I think he's a very decent option when on form, which he is at the moment.

I do agree he can be frustrating though. Needs to stop hitting the deck every 5 mins, and stop trying to do too much with the ball. Keep it simple and he's much much better.

It did annoy me in the past though some of the abuse he got. Brewster was on here not so long ago calling him an "excuse" for a footballer. :mad: He's been very quiet on the subject recently I notice.

I've nothing against the chap but I've never seen such an inconsistent player like him. One game, he's unplayable, the next one he could make grown men cry! Lennon seems to be finally getting him to play to his undoubted ability on a consistent basis. Long may it continue!

I never know why people claim he has ability.

He's an ok player, but as a striker his games to goals ratio is pretty average, at best.

He's not really a striker, he doesnt play his best when he is 'stuck' up front. When he moves wide to receive the ball and run with it is when he causes the opposition the most problems and creates space for proper strikers like Hooper and Stokes.

he has been fairly consistant in the last few months i think i remember reading somewhere that lennon had a wee sit down with him. He must have had his head in the wrong place, hopefully he can continue playing like this

Because on some occasions ripped the ar*e out of teams, Rangers included. He just has to show it more but I agree about his striking ability.

A penalty and a mistake by McGregor, that's the only time he 'ripped the arse out of Rangers'.

I'm not just talking about goals but he has scored other goals against Rangers. He has ran you ragged a few times, hence why he always seems to get picked against you.

He was fantastic against Athletico this season. When he's on form he's really on form and hard to stop.

I think we should have enough to get by, with Izzy back Ledley can be put back in CM & there's Wanyama, Ki & Brown.

But it is bad for Kayal, missed him for the run in last year too and his form this year had improved after a slow start.

Ledley and Wanyama with Ki as back up. No bother. Kayal hasn't been firing on all cylinders anyway.

He's been very unlucky with injuries since he joined, he's had the broken wrist, the broken nose and now this ankle injury. Suppose when you're not afraid of the tackle, these things are going to happen.

We're strong in midfield anyway so I don't think we'll miss him too much, although I agree with Rory in that he was coming into form again recently - it's a shame. Plenty of decent options anyway which is a great position to be in. We'll miss an injured midfielder less than an injured striker, that's for sure.
