Hell yes!

It's one of the few jokes that has ever got nerdy humour down to a tee.

It's creation and subsequent stupidly high quality is in direct correlation to the downfall of the Simpsons, too.

However, the movies were profoundly disappointing, and despite some great episodes (the last episode was a doozy) it can be a bit hit and miss these days.

I always found that Futurama/Simpsons downfall link to be a bit wrong. The Simpsons went downhill long before Futurama came along. Futurama was just the final nail in the coffin.

I'll admit, sometimes it can be very funny and smart. When this happens I tend to think 'Hmm, maybe I've been wrong all these years'.

Then they'll throw in some increadibly Juvenile humour similar to that you'd see in rubbish Simpsons episodes.

Also, the Simpsons in the first 8 years or so were also very endearing as characters. If Homer was sad you genuinely felt it.

I found the complete opposite with Fry, Leela and the gang. Couldn't care less of they got sucked into a black hole.

Bender is the shows saving grace..but even at that, he's just a robotic more extreme version of homer.

Personally I think the Simpsons downfall links very closely to Futurama. Season 10 of the Simpsons (1998-1999) would have been the start of it being pretty bad, although I agree it had shown signs for a few series previously. And with Futurama starting in 1999, there's definitely a strong indication some of the creative talent was focused on Futurama more so than the Simpsons. Although obviously the departure of some of the Simpsons writers for entirely different pastures was a significant factor too!

But Futurama is really the only 'prime time' animation I can watch anymore. I'd completely disagree that it's crude, and think it's far cleverer with its gags than other similar series. Something like South Park I just can't watch anymore because the tone so radically alternates between childishly obscene and worthwhile satire. The combination of the two only works occasionally. Others, like the beyond dreadful Bob's Burgers, are just plain bad.

And as for the characters, I find it's a more straight up comedy, and the inherent wackiness of the central concept means the characters need to be more caricatures. I agree that they can suffer as a result: the Fry / Leela plot always seems a bit weird, although some episodes are genuinely emotionally involving (the dog episode most famously). I see where you're coming from though, even if I think they use the characters to their utmost comic potential.

Anyway, think we're way off topic here :P

I've always liked futurama though .
To be honest I 've always felt the opposite to Oisin .The Simpsons have indestructable characters that no matter what happens reset at the end of the episode , where as I actually find myself caring about the Futurama ones.

BBT is an ok enough sitcom .Not fantastic , and sometimes it feels like they're trying to do "friends" but with comic-con references , but its decent enough.
Oddly enough theres the occiasional geek joke done pretty well.
Oh and there's the sheldon/green lantern t-shirt in-joke.
In Green Lantern comics(which I like a lot, just ignore the film ok.) , theres various different factions each built around an emotion, so Green lantern= willpower , yellow lanterns=fear, oragne=greed , red lanterns rage and so on .Each one has its own logo etc .Whenever Sheldon(one of the main characters) is wearing a 'lantern' t-shirt he'll be acting appropriatly (i.e. yellow means somethings going to happen that has him scare , red means he'll end up angry etc).

I know a lot of people like "curb.." , and it gets awards etc so I'm not saying its a bad show but whenever I watch it its just about the main protagonist making an ass of himself.It's just cringe comedy.

Not particularly interesting but this came today, I still tinker about with the mame pc and it's a pain to have to open up the cab and pull out the keyboard & mouse each time.
Gave it a try earlier and it works flawlessly, really good build qualtity to it also. Excellent little device.

The first two series and a bit. The 'Wee Brain/Britain' arc in the 3rd season almost went ways to justify it being cancelled.

Being honest, 'comic book geekdom' is the kind that gives us nerds a bad name. They tend to have spectacularly low standards. It's why I'm terrified of Comic Con and what it has become.

Freaks & Geeks remains the most accurate, affectionate portrayal of geekdom of them all. Cruelly cancelled

I think it became a bit stupid alright, but at they point they knew they were being cut, so kinda felt like they were taking the p*ss to some extent.

bizzarely I was just thinking about that today , yeah those 3/4 Mr F episodes were a blip in an otherwise fantastic show.
