I think this can be an excellent resource for history in a classroom and for anyone. You could locate statues, plaques etc.

Perhaps we could share areas we have found. What I am looking for here is if anyone knows the exact spot where Kevin O'Higgins was killed. Its here somewhere but perhaps someone local may know if theres a plaque or marking along the road?

I used to live near the spot where Kevin Barry was killed. There is a plaque on the wall of a rough little pub in Smithfield, called 'The Tap'.

Yeah I have seen that one before. Looks like a dodgy pub alright!

I think he means where Kevin Barry was arrested. Barry was executed at Mountjoy Gaol as you say.

I think he was shot at the junction between Booterstown Avenue and Cross Avenue. There used to be a little cross marked into the concrete along the footpath near the entrance to Sans Souci, if memory serves me right.

Looking at that Google Map image, it may have been lost. I grew up in Booterstown so I always had an interest in his assasination.

Lots of people have done up their houses around there during the boom years, including replacing the footpaths and boundary walls. It's a shame if its gone, because it would be another sign of people's feckless obsession with property eliminating another little bit of history.

At the end of this path lies the spot where the dismembered body of Noel Lemass was found, brother of Sean. He was believed to have been tortured before his death and was missing for quite some time before his body was dumped at this spot.

Just came across this as I was reading about Kevin O'Higgins, coming up to the 90th anniversary of his shooting. I grew up in Booterstown and still live there. I remember the cross inscribed in the concrete. It wasn't on the footpath though, it was on the road. Literally on the area facing into the gutter of the road, on San Souci Park. If you were walking down Booterstown Avenue towards the Church, as you crossed San Souci Park road you would walk over it just before you stepped back up onto the pavement after crossing, (if you know what I mean?). That was there in the 1970's, my memory of it is very clear.

I checked recently, and it is no longer there.

Don't want to turn the thread into a quiz but this place is the memorial to one of the worst acts of the Civil War. I think the context of the civil war and how it still shapes us today (FF v FG) is not as well taught in schools as it should be.
