Irish racist hate-group on Facebook..

...disgusting, dispiriting, and alarming. I know racism always bubbles beneath the surface on this mighty little rock of ours, but I must confess I'm pretty shocked about the number of people who have openly joined this group called "I hate Romanian Gypsies" (sic). Even worse are the comments, which range from the self-deluded ("I'm not racist but...") to the downright vile (references to gas-chambers etc.).

Do you think it is ok for them to be engaging in organised begging like they are around Ireland (or europe for that matter)? Should be people like them for that?

Any hate they receive is brought upon by themselves. I just pity their kids who will be brought up to behave like them.

This is not so surprising. It happens on most social internet sites, when they make webpages dedicating to hating. Hell I believe there is a website dedicated to hating the Irish, people insult us everyday. Not to mention Stormfront.

In a supermarket. There are a few Irish that would also fit into it, just my attention is drawn too them. The large group of people been extremly loud.

I work with a person from Romania who told me there actully worse back in Romania.

I can see your point - sometimes when people are being silly, the best thing to do is just ignore them rather than bother giving them much heed.

On the other hand, I think that racism in Ireland too often passes by unremarked upon. I'm coming round to the opinion that purveyors of racist remarks, casual or "harmless" or otherwise, should be made to feel uncomfortable, whether it's the the person serving us in a shop or drunken mate engaging in banter.

So I say publicise the fúck out of racists - and let them see the reaction - so that they're not under any illusion that they enjoy the silent support of the majority of their compatriots.

A responsible parent would have nothing to fear as they wouldn't post photos of their children on the web, or if not at least take the necessary precautions and use the security settings to limit who can see them. Even then wouldn't those people be getting their jollies over pictures of children fully clothed? Not much different to pictures you'd find in a newspaper or magazine tbh.

I think its sad that there is so much vitriol directed against one group of people.

There are 5 million or so Roma in Europe. I don't know them all so I will wait before I make sweeping generalizations about them.

These people are ROMA or SINTI by race, nation, etc. They are NOT Romanian. There is a large population of them in Romania, but to my knowledge they are very much a separate race. There have been large populations of Roma people in all Eastern European countries for decades. Romania is not name after the Roma race and vice versa.

I am not sure where Travellers stand, if they consider themselves a seperate race or nation to the Irish race.

Use the report button on Facebook, afaik it will be deleted.
