Apparently Shane McMahon's resignation from WWE was quite the unexpected piece of news to those in the company. According to reports, there was no notice to anyone, not even those who work directly for McMahon.
There is still no definitive word as to why McMahon resigned, although PWInsider.com reports that it may have something to do with Shane going to work with his mother Linda in her bid to become Senator of Connecticut.

Mayweather gets paid more but the UFC fighters as a whole get more than boxers. Mayweather makes far more money than anyone else in boxing, Lesner doesn't in the UFC. And to answer your question, if anyone would sanction it Lesner would probably get an immediate title shot in boxing to get people talking and coughing up the cash

Apparently Brock Lesnar was paid about 3 million for his fight with Frank Mir at UFC 100 (the biggest UFC show this year) while Mayweather was paid 10 million for his fight with Marquez (the biggest drawing boxing event this year).

UFC 100 drew a higher buy rate at 1.7 million buys while Marquez/Mayweather did 1 million.

In the last 3 years, UFC's ppv average has been better than boxing and the WWE with the gap widening this year with UFC scoring 3 shows already over 1 million buys and will probably do a 4th for their Novembert show.

If Golden Boy promotions managed to book Mayweather versus Couto or Pacman, it definitely would have the potential to exceed 1.7 million buys, beating UFC's record for this year.

On a monthly basis howver, UFC is outperforming boxing. UFC have about 10 guys that as of right now instantly draw over 500 thousand buys whereas boxing probably only have 3. It's all about making stars. Whoever can do it the most effectively be it the WWE, boxing or UFC will draw the best.

Dunne is a regional/local draw. Michael Bisping a draw in the UK when he fights in November (an MMA fighter from England whose good but a step away from world class) will likely be around the same sort of ball park figure depending on bonuses.

I'm not an expert but boxers on average may still be getting payed more than MMA fighters but pay in MMA is rising all the time. It's still a very young sport.

I like boxing as much as I like MMA.

It's not on it's knees. In fact it's probably improved over the last few years becasue of increased competition by the UFC (the super 6 tournnament at the moment, big fights happening more regularly). Even the production that Brian Peters puts on for a Bernard Dunne show has a lot of MMA/WWEness about it. He pretty much said it when he met Dana White at UFC 93 which was shown on his blog.

Boxing could be alot better though.

The 2 biggest problems boxing has is that their titles are virtually meaningless (there's about 70 of them) making it hard for people to get interested in title fights as they mean nothing excpet with regional draws like a Bernard Dunne are fighting, hence the super 6 middelweight tournament.

The other problem is that it's harder for boxing to make stars becasue it's so fractured with the multitude of promoters, belts and organisations all with their own interests whereas the UFC and the WWE can control their own world alot better (although its getting harder for the UFC, the more money and managers that are coming into play).

1 other thing that bugs me about watching a boxing ppv is that they are torture to sit through alot of the time. The under cards fights take place with literally no one in the arena and come across as totally meaniningless (again making it harder to make stars).

When I read this I thought it was a work. I'm actually still not convinced that it's not an angle of some sort. Although I'm not sure what the big return would be on it though. I mean it's not like Shane coming back would be the Rock coming back or something huge like that.

Would love to know if there's some backstage politics or something going on.

I received this email from a former WWE employee
yesterday. His name is Mike Witt. He wrote it because he felt like those of us that follow WWE on the internet needed a real life perspective on the relationship between the McMahons, specifically Shane and Stephanie. He is allowing me to share it with you while also including his name although I will not be publishing his email address. He made it clear to me that he is still a fan of WWE despite no longer working there. I'd like to thank him for these insightful words because they definitely shed a light on the departure of Shane McMahon.

I worked with Stephanie McMahon for two years as a runner and production assistant. I left because I was offered a new opportunity which required less travel.

It seems that a lot of wrestling news
sites are pointing to Shane departure as a result of some sort of inner tension between Stephanie and Shane and where they stand in the company. I'm not sure who these sources are but here was my experience, take it for what it is worth, and it really would be nice if your readers got to at least read a first hand account of behind the scenes life:

Stephanie was not unlike any other business person and stood by her decisions. Between you and me, some may not have been the best, but if you are going to get respect in a lockerroom full of egos, you can't cower at every little disagreement. So call that brash, but anyone in that kind of position would do the same. Let's not forget there's more pressure on her than anyone else in the company. That's just my opinion.

There were times when both Shane and Stephanie shared ideas. There was never any tension between them that I could see. I would say though that Vince was very, very hard on Stephanie since he pretty much still runs creative. I've seen him blow up at her on more than one occassion.

As far as Stephanie's interaction with talent and behavior under strees, I never saw her degrade or yell at talent. I have seen her pull talent aside from time to time if something was done poorly or at the risk of hurting the flow of production. Again, normal given her position.

As for Shane, although he was not around much, he definitely was the more overbearing of the two. He wanted everyone to know he was his father's son and had a "good old boy" sense of running things. Almost to the point where it was quite degrading to Stephanie. Maybe I'm biased because I worked for her, who knows, but Shane certainly seemed to have a chip on his shoulder at times and he truly did love being one of the boys. Obviously Stephanie will never have that luxery.

As for Vince, yes, he is loud, commanding, and a yeller. Yes, he did give Stephanie a lot of attention because she worked directly with creative whereas Shane was mostly corporate. Again, just because Stephanie worked with Vince more deos not mean their styles were the same. I didn't get that at all. Vince is a yealler, more brash in his tine. Stephanie was often the person to calm people (just ask Heyman).

As for Shane, I wish him luck. Maybe the chip he has on his shoulder is why he left, who knows. He never really showed any interest in creative so I'm not sure why internet writers keep comparing the two. Had Shane shown any interest in creative, or had some solid input, there's not a doubt in my mind that Shane would have been running creative. But instead he chose the more corporate side. He's a salesman through and through. Stephanie is not. What you see is what you get. She's down to earth and says what's on her mind.

Anyway, just wanted to pass this along. May people read a lot of things on the internet and never really get the "real" scoop. This is just my experience but I hope it sheds some light on things.

For the record, I didn't see Shane's departure coming either, but lets not forget, he's still a major shareholder in the company and can return at any time. He will also still have plenty of influence behind the scenes. Whether that's good or bad who knows.
