Would you call your child Damien?

I never thought I would be asking myself this question.

We're expecting our second child in December & we dont know if it's going to be a boy or a girl.

Anywho? A the early stage of pregnancy myself & Mrs Whosbetter? started discussing names & we jokingly said 'Let's call it Damien', as a laugh.

As time went on we slowly came round to the idea that it's a nice name after all (despite all the Omen connotations).

I know that this is AH & there will be loads of 'pisstake' answers to this, but here goes.

Nah I think it's called Damien, never seen it spelled with 'a' apart from brother and historical people.

Was in Tesco a few months back and there was a little blonde child having the mother of all screaming tantrums. Seriously thought the little thing was going to make himself sick.

Turned to my husband and said, "If his mother says, 'now Damien...' I will die laughing"

So... just make sure you give the name to a seriously angellic child

I too have a brother called Damian as opposed to Damien. Apparantly he was called this after a Father Damian who did fantastic work with lepers in some remote part of Hawaii.

Depends. No one will actually call him Damian in a few years. But, if you're from Dublin, then Damo is a quality salt of the earth name. But if you're a bogger, it just doesn't work. It would make him sound like a traveller.

When I meet someone called Damien, I don't immediately think of the Omen!

However I wouldn't consider it as a name for my own child. I just don't like it.

As far as I know, Damian is the more "correct spelling" ...? Open to correction there!

My brother was born in December and is called Damien. It's an omen!!

No seriously, he's never had an problems. The Omen is a 70s film and my brother was an 80s child and never had any problems, kids today won't have even heard of it. And while it's not an unusual name it's not all that common either. He did get shortened to Damo and it stuck

Well the kids now have names after Sc-fi characters.

Dakota (from Dakota Fanning and the number of sci-fi films she has done)
Logan (Logans Run and Dark Angel)
Teyla (Stargate SG1)
Inara Lee (Firefly/Serenity and "Lee" from Battlestar Galacticia). Had she been a boy, it would have been Adalma! :pac:

Thats what I meant earlier. Although it may be a classic horror/thriller film there is no longer the hype around it as there was before. The name is becoming less and less associated with the film. Now if you were to call him Lucifer...

I'm 20,when I saw this thread,my 1st thought was of The Omen.

I don't like the name so I wouldn't call a child Damien but I wouldn't care about the film connotations
